Defenceman Tyson Barrie tied a career-high with three assists.Five wins in our last seven games. Its pretty solid, Colorado coach Patrick Roy said. A break here and there, we would have won seven in a row.The Avalanche have been winning despite an anemic power play that was 1-for-31 entering Saturday. After three empty opportunities, Roy used his fourth line for the next advantage. It didnt produce a goal, but it woke up the top two units. Our power play was brutal, and Patty put out our fourth line, and they did a great job, Duchene said. They should have actually scored there. The game was tied 2-2 before the Avalanche scored three times within 5:45, spanning the second and third periods.Tanguay gave Colorado the lead when he got a pass from Duchene from behind the net and beat goalie Anders Lindback on the short side with 2:00 left in the second period. The power play awoke when Duchene scored 46 seconds into the third, and Landeskog made it 5-2 during a two-man advantage at 3:45. Calvin Pickard made 22 saves in the win.Our power play was big. Its nice to finally score on it, Tanguay said. We havent been scoring on that all year.Cody Eakin and Patrick Eaves had goals for the Stars, who lost for the second straight night following a three-game winning streak. Lindback made 42 saves.Dallas was helped by a pair of mistakes by defenceman Jan Hejda in scoring twice in the first period. He has a 7-1 win-loss record against the 24-year-old Canadian, from Thornhill, Ont. who served 34 aces to grind out a 6-7 (4), 7-6 (4), 7-6 (4) win over second-seeded Kei Nishikori in the other semifinal. Its a goal for the season, so I still have time to get to a thousand, Federer said, smiling. I mean, its a really big number, no doubt about it. Love to get it tomorrow, especially in the finals in an ATP event where most of my wins have come.If not tomorrow, I hope it happens at the Australian Open. It would definitely be an incredible milestone to reach.Only Jimmy Connors and Ivan Lendl have won more than 1,000 matches. They were very consistent for a long time, very match tough, and definitely players and athletes you could look up to because their longevity was incredible, the 33-year-old Federer said. It would mean a lot to get to a thousand, but theyre still ahead of me.Maria Sharapova was scheduled to play Ana Ivanovic in the Saturday night womens final. The third-seeded Raonic appeared to grow in confidence as the match progressed against U.S. Open finalist Nishikori, earning three match points with an ace in the third tiebreaker and then clinching it after 2 1/2 hours with a stunning forehand service return.Raonic said hell be relying again on his serve, hoping to emulate the form that earned a winn over Federer in Paris last year. cheap nfl jerseys. Thats always been a key. Last few matches I started poorly. I would get broken right in my first service game, which is not the way to really go about things, especially against a top player and especially against Roger, he said. So Ive got to keep that pressure on him and then sort of step up when I can create my opportunities.Raonics win over U.S. Open finalist Nishikori was only his second in six head-to-heads between the pair.I felt I served really well. Thats held me around, especially in the beginning, because I felt he was getting more and more on top of me at the beginning from the baseline, Raonic said. That sort of kept me in it and sort of gave me a chance.Neither player dropped serve in the match, meaning Nishikori exited the tournament without being broken in a service game.Eventually, though, the quick points Raonic was able to pick up on his booming serve made the difference. Each set turned on one error at the same stage of the tiebreakers.Nishikori forced an error with a powerful service return in the first for a 5-4 lead. He served a double-fault in the second to give Raonic the 5-4 advantage with two serves to close. The last tiebreaker was on serve until Nishikori missed a forehand with the court wide open, and Raonic took over from there.Venus Williams won her first title of the year when she recovered from a set and a break down for a 2-6, 6-3, 6-3 win over top-seeded Carolina Wozniacki in the final of the ASB Classic at Auckland, New Zealand. Her sister, Serena Williams, was aiming for a third Hopman Cup title when she partnered John Isner in the U.S. team against Poland in the final later Saturday in Perth, Australia. cheap nfl jerseys cheap jerseys cheap jerseys cheap nfl jerseys wholesale jerseys ' ' '
It was the biggest match to date of the season and Toronto FC failed to show up. Amini Silatolu Panthers Jersey . That was the basic premise in a 2-0 loss Saturday afternoon to the Philadelphia Union, capping off a thoroughly disappointing week. Three losses in three games against Eastern Conference rivals, a coaching change, more injuries and fresh questions about Toronto FCs playoff credentials remain in the aftermath. Adversity has come to the team and the bell has not been answered. The performances, subpar, out-scored 6-0 against teams ripe in the playoff hunt. Back-to-back losses against the Union particularly hurt, with Philadelphia leapfrogging Toronto in the standings. Four points out of six seemed a reasonable goal in the home-and-home with the Union. No points to show for constitute a failure. There is no sugarcoating it: the performance was poor and the boos ringing out at BMO Field were deserved. But before we go any further, please make note: All is not lost. Toronto FC is very much alive. The headlines and narrative surrounding the team has been decidedly negative, but completely overblown, considering Toronto FC were in position to control their own playoff destiny eight days ago, sitting in a playoff spot with at least a game in hand on all teams in and around them in the standings. An initial burst of energy or inspiration after a coaching change may not have played out. The depth on this team (or lack thereof) has not been fit to deal with a number of key injuries. And players playing through injury have not had a decided positive impact. Defensive errors and resorting to the long ball in attack featured in the lackluster performance. Confidence and communication are clearly lacking, leading to sloppy goals conceded. While the negative seems overwhelming, it must be said the team remains in a playoff spot, depending on the results of Columbus and New York this weekend. Regardless, Toronto FC is still right in the mix in a weak Eastern Conference. The MLS roster freeze comes September 15th and Im told the market is quiet, although as teams in the Western Conference fall to the wayside, perhaps there is possibility to add. General manager Tim Bezbatchenko is aware of the expectations and will certainly look to add to the team, particularly at the back. There is now a week before Toronto FC is next in action: a chance to breathe, refocus, and heal. Seven days to get things back on track. Here are my five thoughts on Toronto FC latest setback: 1) Missing Stevo – To say Toronto FC misses captain Steven Caldwell is an absolute understatement. Caldwell is the leader, key communicator, and glue across the backline. Without the Scotsman, Toronto FC is a vulnerable bunch lacking direction and positional discipline. Goals by Conor Casey and Andrew Wenger came from failure to clear and poor marking in and around the six-yard box. Such error is not expected as this juncture of the season. Countless times over the last two games, the back four has become stretched and the players have been forced to deal with being out-numbered. Without timely saves by goalkeeper Joe Bendik, the results could have been worse. There is talent in the unit, but the current composition, sans Caldwell, is just not right. Nick Hagglund and Doneil Henry each show promise, but are both 21 with brighter days ahead. Each are easily drawn out of position and left vulnerable by their own doing. Mark Bloom appeared in just six MLS matches before this season and hardly looks the player he was before injury. And Bradley Orr is playing through a toe injury: not an ideal situation for the lone veteran across the back. Each has positive moments, but are failing to gel as a collective. Defensive composure is essential through growing pains. That has to be fixed. Caldwell understood how much he was missed and came back from injury too soon. Patience is required to heal. In the meantime, the team struggles without Captain Caldwell. 2) Broken Wings – The one noticeable change from former head coach Ryan Nelsen to Greg Vanney is the wingbacks getting up the field into the attack. The thought behind the tactic is worthwhile, but fails to come off without Justin Morrow manning the left side. Toronto FCs current wingbacks havent provided the needed service and/or pace down the flanks to truly threaten. And in turn, getting too far up the field has left Toronto FC exposed on the counter. Philadelphia had a field day the last two matches exposing Toronto pushing forward. The problem isnt simply with the cover by the defenders. The central midfield has been slow to react. Collen Warner in particular failed to get back to cover, filling the space in rotation to make a back four. The recovery runs havent been made with purpose across the midfield. Warner was substituted in the 44th minute; a message sent by Vanney. If the wingbacks are going to continue to attack, communication, rotation, and defensive commitment from the midfield has to be better. 3) Central Midfield Dilemma – Vanney should consider switching up the central combination for next week in Chicago. Both Warner and Michael Bradley are good players, but play too similar a role in the middle, both regularly falling deep to build from the back. When they turn on the ball, there are few options available, with the preferable option consistently being to play the ball to either wingback. The wingbacks, in turn, play the long back, giving away possession. I blame a lack of options available through the middle of the park and too much congestion elsewhere. There is no texture to the central midfield and the build up wanes because of it. If Bradley is going to hold, a more attack-minded midfield partner may remedy what ails the position. When fit Jonathan Osorio is the option, that makes most sense. Osorio has struggled in his sophomore campaign playing most often out on the left. A move into the middle seems to be the better fit. Kyle Bekker wasnt up for it in the second half, so options in the role are limited. Or perhaps Vanney elects to move to a 4-3-3, which seems more suited to the personnel available. Vanney expressed his desire to have flexibility in terms of the tactics. Its a big ask of the players to make such a formational change this late in the season but this may be necessary based on current form. The attack needs be much better. 4) Short vs. Long Term – It was always a risk for Bezbatchenko to pull the plug on Nelsen and his staff when he did. Even Vanney himself couldnt recall a time in Major League Soccer when a manager had been fired while sitting in a playoff spot this late in the season. Its clear the front office and coaching staff needed be on the same page. Time will tell whether the timing on this one was right. The safer move for Bez would have been to keep Nelsen on until the end of the season, then make a change. If the team failed to make the playoffs, Nelsen could have been the fall guy. But time wasnt something the general manager thought he had. Bezbatchenko is confident he made the best decision for both short and long term. Its difficult for Toronto FC supporters to hear, but the franchise is going through yet another process of growth and identification. The financial commitment made raises the stakes but doesnt change the process. The balance between the push for the playoffs and lasting build is a difficult balance, especially for a rookie GM. Big picture, it remains about getting it right and creating something sustainable for the club to build off for years to come. Break-ups are never easy. This case is no different. 5) Defoe Story – Vanney says he expects Jermain Defoe to return to the team by the 20th. This comes after a Daily Mail story claiming Defoe is trying to negotiate a buyout from the club. Lets be clear, the Daily Mail is hardly a bastion of truth in sports reporting. And even if we assume Defoe (which very well may be the case) is angling for a way out of Toronto, there is no chance Toronto would give him a buyout after the team kept hold of a prized asset, resisting temptation to sell for a record number in the dying hours before the transfer window closed. Defoe is in Toronto until January, period. After that, all bets are off. Defoe needs to get back at it, prove he is fit mentally and physically, and be on the field for the stretch run. He makes the team better. And Toronto will feel much better saying goodbye if Defoe helps this team make the playoffs. This is more a test of Defoes focus and demeanor than anything at Toronto FC. Next up for Toronto FC is a visit to Chicago to take on the Fire next Saturday. @WheelerTSNgareth.email@example.com Shaq Thompson Womens Jersey . PARIS -- Rafael Nadals path to a record-extending ninth French Open title could take him through a series of matches against the men who beat him on clay this season. The top-seeded Nadal was drawn Friday to possibly face No. 21 Nicolas Almagro in the fourth round, then No. 5 David Ferrer in the quarterfinals. "Those are opponents that know how to play well on clay," Nadal said. "But its never easy." The other mens quarterfinal matchups could be No. 2 Novak Djokovic vs. No. 8 Milos Raonic, No. 3 Stan Wawrinka vs. No. 7 Andy Murray, and No. 4 Roger Federer vs. No. 6 Tomas Berdych. The possible womens quarterfinals are No. 1 Serena Williams vs. No. 7 Maria Sharapova in what would be a rematch of last years final won by Williams, No. 2 Li Na vs. No. 6 Jelena Jankovic, No. 3 Agnieszka Radwanska vs. No. 8 Angelique Kerber, and No. 4 Simona Halep vs. No. 5 Petra Kvitova. Ferrer, who lost to Nadal in the 2013 final at Roland Garros, upset him in the Monte Carlo quarterfinals last month. Almagro ended Nadals 41-match winning streak in Barcelona by beating him in the quarterfinals there a week later. Those defeats were both in best-of-three-set matches. The French Open, like all Grand Slam tournaments, uses a best-of-five format for men, and Nadal was asked Friday whether that gives him an advantage on clay. "I give my most every point, every game, every set. Whether its (best of) three or five, if you want to win, you have to play well," he said. Nadal has three llosses on clay in a season for the first time since 2004, when he was only 17 and had yet to play a match at the French Open. Star Lotulelei Jersey. He was beaten in the Rome final last weekend by Djokovic; they only could meet in the final in Paris. Djokovic has won the pairs last four meetings, but Nadal is 5-0 head-to-head at the French Open, including victories in the 2012 final and 2013 semifinals. Djokovic, a six-time major champion who needs a French Open title to complete a career Grand Slam, and Federer, owner of a record 17 major titles, were drawn to meet in the semifinals. Nadal, who stands third among men with 13 Grand Slam trophies, could meet Australian Open champion Wawrinka in the semifinals. Nadal is 59-1 for his career at the French Open, with four titles in a row in 2005-08 and again in 2010-13. Williams won the clay-court Grand Slam tournament in 2002, beating her older sister Venus in the final, then waited 11 years before adding a second French Open trophy in 2013. The Williams sisters were drawn Friday to face each other in the third round, which would be their earliest meeting at a Grand Slam tournament since their very first matchup, in the second round of the 1998 Australian Open. Venus is seeded 29th at the French Open. Shes won seven Grand Slam singles titles, 10 fewer than Serena, who holds a 14-10 edge in head-to-head matches. "It never gets easier," Serena said. Dovetailing with the decline in 1,000-yard rushers, there are an increasing number fo 1,000-yard receivers in the NFL now, which offers more opportunity to find useful fantasy contributors. Paul Goldschmidt Jersey . The best of the best remains Detroits Calvin Johnson, who is in another class, even when compared to the growing field of 1,000-yard wideouts. Last season, there were 24 wide receivers with at least 1,000 receiving yards, and seven of them had double-digit touchdowns. The year before, it was 19 1,000-yard receivers; then 17, 16, 20, 21, 20, 19, 19 and 23 over the past decade. With a few more reaching that threshold, there is opportunity to squeeze out some value later, but it doesnt hurt to get the big guns loaded. Over that period, there are 14 receivers with five 1,000-yard seasons, and three of them (Donald Driver, Chad Johnson and Derrick Mason) are out of the league, so its hard to bank on guys for year-in, year-out production. Nevertheless, Calvin Johnson has gone for more than 1,000 yards in five of the past six seasons and has double-digit touchdowns in four of those five seasons. Thats consistent enough to be the top fantasy option at the position and worthy of a mid-first-round pick in most formats. Beyond Johnson, there is still lots of talent. Denvers Demaryius Thomas has had back-to-back seasons with at least 1,400 receiving yards and double-digit touchdowns. The aforementioned Calvin Johnson is the only other active receiver with two seasons of at least 1,400 receiving yards and double-digit touchdowns. Beyond those two, Dallas Dez Bryant has 2,615 receiving yards with 25 touchdowns the past two years, and Cincinnatis A.J. Green has racked up 2,776 yards with 22 touchdowns. In some configuation, thats a pretty strong top four. Thats not to say that there arent more contenders for that kind of ranking, however. Green Bays Jordy Nelson missed four games in 2012, but in 2011 and 2013, he combined for 2,577 yards and 23 touchdowns. Being Aaron Rodgers preferred target has its benefits. Few receivers have been as consistently productive as Chicagos Brandon Marshall, who has seven straight seasons with at least 1,000 receiving yards, scoring 23 touchdowns in the last two combined. The trouble, if you want to call it that, is that Marshall is losing some looks to third-year wideout Alshon Jeffery, who had a breakout year in 2013, accruing 1,421 yards and seven touchdowns. While there is typically a reluctance to pick rookie wide receivers -- since 2000, there have been five first-year receivers with at least 1,000 receiving yards -- Keenan Allen, a third-round pick of San Diego last season was one of them. Naturally, then, expectations are high for Allen going into his second season. Tampa Bays Vincent Jackson has never had a double-digit touchdown season, but hes gone for 1,000 yards or more in five of the past six seasons. If he turned in a dozen touchdown year on top of a 1,200-yard season, that would be some serious value. The Atlanta Falcons offer up a pair of possible boucneback options. Julio Jones was running away from the competition last year, with 580 yards in five games before his season was ended with a foot injury. Across the field, Roddy White limped his way through much of the season with a high ankle sprain, finishing with 711 receiving yards, his lowest since 2006. White is 32, so predicting a bounceback gets a little dicey at that age, but he had 502 receiving yards in his last five games last season, presumably once the ankle had improved. The No. 1 target in Pittsburgh, Antonio Brown is coming off a season in which he gained 1,499 receiving yards and figures to get at least as many looks this year with a less-than-inspiring supporting cast. One of the challenges when evaluating wide receivers is that they are going to be dependent on their quarterback for production. The Giants Victor Cruz has 3,626 receiving yards with 23 yards over the past three seasons, but if Eli Manning isnt on top of his game this season, that will likely have an adverse effect on Cruzs production. A similar issue could hang over the Texans duo of Andre Johnson and DeAndre Hopins. Johnson, the veteran, has never had a double-digit receiving touchdown season, but has more than 1,400 receiving yards in four of the past six seasons. Hopkins is going into his second season after a rookie year that had its ups and downs, but still finished with 802 receiving yards. The question for both is whether they can put up big numbers with Ryan Fitzpatrick as their quarterback. Larry Fitzgerald had a bit of a bounceback last season, when the Cardinals brought in Carson Palmer. Fitzgerald was held under 1,000 yards for the second straight season, but had his first double-digit touchdown season since 2009. Michael Floyd emerged, in his second season, as a strong option across from Fitzgerald, accumulating receiving 1,041 yards, so Floyd may be similarly valuable going forward. With DeSean Jackson off to Washington, Philadelphias top remaining wide receivers Jeremy Maclin and Riley Cooper will have opportunities to put up strong stats. Maclin has yet to record a 1,000-yard season in his career, and missed all of 2013, but if he can stay healthy, he should get there this year. Cooper was a full-time starter last year, for the first time in his career, and had 835 receiving yards with eight touchdowns. 1,000 yards isnt necessarily out of reach for him either. San Franciscos receiving corps ought to be better this year, with Anquan Boldin the reliable veteran, but bolstered with a healthy Michael Crabtree, along with newcomer Stevie Johnson. Crabtree, who only played five games last season, but has played well with Colin Kaepernick under centre, could be primed for a bounceback campaign. There are some value shifts based on team changes, most notably for Eric Decker, leaving the high-octane Broncos for the New York Jets. Deckers value will drop, but he could still provide value if he drops too far; on the other hand, Emmanuel Sanders moves from Pittsburgh to Denver, replacing Decker, and that would seem to make it likely that Sanders will top last years career-best 740 yards and six touchdowns. One of the most popular breakout candidates at wide receiver this season is Minnesotas Cordarrelle Patterson, the second-year receiver who had 469 receiving yards and nine touchdowns (two on returns, three rushing) as a rookie. Can Matt Cassel take advantage of Pattersons deep speed? Baltimores Torrey Smith could take a further step forward, after putting up a career-high 1,128 receiving yards last season. Even with similar yardage, Smith could still add value if he scores more than the four touchdowns he had last year. When it comes to value plays, Seattles Percy Harvin offers high upside -- he had 1,312 yards from scrimmage in 2011 with Minnesota -- but he hasnt been able to stay healthy. At some point, his talent makes him worth a pick. Its tough to get value from rookie wide receivers (see the note associated with Keenan Allen) but this years crop is headed by Buffalos Sammy Watkins, Tampa Bays Mike Evans and, as something of a sleeper, New Orleans Brandin Cooks. Watkins and Evans are expected to start, with questionable quarterbacks, while Cooks has a chance, with his speed, to add a new dimension for an elite quarterback. Carolina may have the leagues worst receiving corps, but those expected to start, Jerricho Cotchery and rookie Kelvin Benjamin, are both intriguing when it comes to deeper leagues -- someone has to catch Cam Newtons passes. In any case, adding depth at the position remains important. Even if you secure blue-chippers for starting spots, there are bye weeks, injuries and flex spots that will require you to look deeper on the list of candidates. TSN Hockey Insider Bob McKenzie tweeted on Monday that the Winnipeg Jets WPG could be much more open to considering a trade for any player, including forward Evander Kane. That said, David Staples of The Edmonton Journal suggests that the Oilers could look into acquiring Kane for another winger who may benefit from a change in scenery. "Would a Nail Yakupov for Kane deal make sense?," he wrote. "A risk for a risk? Of course, having just lost Alexander Burmistrov to the KHL, the Jets might not be so keen on picking up another young Russian attacker. Of course, most Oilers fans would much rather see Sam Gagner and spare parts moved for Kane, but Winnipeg is OK at centre with Bryan Little and Mark Scheifele. A Winnipeg/Edmonton deal certainly doesnt seem out of the question here. A bit of logic to it." Alfies Answer? "Were going to have to develop one of our young guys to play second-line centre," he said. "I think its hard to add in free agency." PHILADELPHIA -- Down and out or down to the wire, the 76ers are freefalling toward NBA history. Nike Roshe One Slip Negro . D.J Augustin scored 20 points and Taj Gibson had 19 points and 13 rebounds to lead the Chicago Bulls to a 102-94 win over Philadelphia on Wednesday night, handing the 76ers their 22nd straight loss. The Sixers are four losses shy of matching the NBA record for the longest single-season losing streak. The Cleveland Cavaliers set the record of 26 consecutive losses in the 2010-11 season. The Vancouver Grizzlies (1995-96), Denver Nuggets (1997-98) and Charlotte Bobcats (2011-12) each lost 23 straight. "Winnable game," 76ers coach Brett Brown said. "I say that because a group thats been losing ... still stays together. They still compete. Im proud of them." The Sixers also lost their 17th straight home game since beating Charlotte on Jan. 15. They were 8-11 at home at that point and had already defeated Miami, the Bulls, and Houston in Philadelphia. After the Sixers were 3-0 following a Nov. 2 win over Chicago, fans held signs that said, "3-0. Thats No Bull." That seems like another season at times after the Sixers traded Evan Turner, Spencer Hawes and Lavoy Allen at the deadline for draft picks, a necessary step for a rebuilding franchise. Unlike most of the first 21 losses in the streak, the Sixers were competitive until the final possessions, never letting the Bulls lead by more than 11. Sixers centre Byron Mullens, who hadnt attempted a shot all game, hit consecutive 3s to pull the Sixers to 83-80. He made a nifty save on a ball headed out of bounds, leading to Henry Sims bucket and a foul. With a chance to tie the game, Sims missed the free throw with 8:19 left. Thaddeus Young bailed him out a possession later with a 3-pointer that made it 85-all. Joakim Noah buried a go-ahead 3 from the top of the arc and Augustin followed with one from the sideline to put the Bulls up 91-85. Tony Wrotens 3 made it 93-90 but it was just more false hope. Carlos Boozers emphatic dunk stretched the lead to six and the Bulls did enough to hang on and move to .500 on the road (17-17). The Sixers have lost three of four by less than 10 points after losing each of the previous 10 games by double-digits. "We knew it would be this type of game," Augustin said. "We just tried to fight them until the end and it was a fight, a real fight." The Sixers could make it 23 straight with a loss Friday to New York. Then three straight on the road at Chicago, San Antonio and Houston. If the Sixers lose all of those games, the potential record 27th loss would come March 29 vs. Detroit. Young scored 24 points for the Sixers and Wroten had 17. "Were going to get one soon," Wroten said. Boozer had 12 points and 11 rebounds for the Bulls and Noah added 14 points and 10 boards. The Sixers solid 11-for-24 3-point shooting was undone by a 9 of 19 mark from the free-throw line. "There is just no inch for error," Brown said. "Theres no wiggle room at all." The Sixers stayed tight and chipped away in the third, making it 64-61 on Youngs 3-pointer. Sims was 0 for 7 from the floor until his first basket cut it to 64-63. The Sixers just couldnt make the clutch basket or two to finally take the lead. Theyd get as close again as two points in the third and trailed only 75-69 at the end of the quarter. "I think Bretts done a great job with them," Bulls coach Tom Thibodeau said. "Theyve got a lot of moving parts. I give a guy like Young a lot of credit for his professionalism -- how hard he plays. They shot the ball well. The Bulls played without Derrick Rose, the former MVP point guard who tore the meniscus in his right knee at Portland in November and was ruled out for the remainder of the season. Thibodeau said Rose could could be ready to return if he gets the call to play this summer for Team USA at the world championships. "I know hed like to do it," Thibodeau said. Andrew Harrison converted 3-of-4 foul shots down the stretch and Fred VanVleets contested 3-pointer fell short just prior to the buzzer, allowing Kentucky to reach the Sweet 16 by knocking off the Shockers, 78-76, in the third round of the NCAA Tournament. Harrison ended up with 20 points for the Wildcats (26-10), who advance to take on Louisville next Friday in Indianapolis in the Midwest Region semifinals. Aaron Harrison added 19 points, with James Young and Julius Randle contributing 13 apiece for the victors. Cleanthony Early totaled a game-high 31 points for the Shockers (35-1), who set an NCAA record for most wins in one season without suffering a loss, but ultimately failed in their bid to reach the Final Four for the second straight year. Ron Baker converted 4-of-6 shots from long range en route to 20 points, but VanVleet was held to four points on 1-of-6 shooting, including 0-for-4 from beyond the arc. A long two by Early put WSU up 71-70 with 2:16 remaining, but Young countered with a triple from the top of the key and Kentucky took a 73-71 edge on the next possession. A trey from Tekele Cotton then rolled in and out, and Andrew Harrison made two at the line with 42.6 showing for a four-point Wildcats spread. Baker hit a banked three from the left side to bring the Shockers within 75-74, before Randle drained both of his free throws to push his clubs edge back to three. Baker was called upon again from the left wing, but his next long-range attempt fell short. Early, however, was fouled on the offensive board and made two at the line with 9.8 to play for a 77-76 score. Andrew Harrison earned his second chance at the charity stripe, making the first and missing the second. Nike Roshe One Rojas baratas. Early picked up the ball, flew up court and Wichita State called timeout with 3.2 seconds to go. VanVleet let fly from 25 feet away, but the shot was just off the mark, hitting the rim and backboard. Andrew Harrisons triple gave the Wildcats some separation prior to the midway point of the opening 20 minutes at 19-15, but the edge was short lived. Kentucky was forced to call a timeout after a runner from Early made it 30-23. Cotton began the eventual 17-4 surge with the first five, while VanVleet contributed all four of his points -- including two closing free throws -- for a 32-23 spread with 4:37 left in the half. Wichita State went to intermission ahead 37-31 after a triple by Jarrod Polson reduced Kentuckys gap. Earlys three to kick off the second half was countered by 10 in a row from Kentucky, which took a 41-40 lead after Alex Poythress converted a layup. Baker followed with six in a row on a trey and a three-point play and WSU held a 46-43 lead, then the Wildcats struck back for seven straight and Willie Cauley-Steins slam put them up 50-46. Momentum shifted once more, as the Shockers embarked on a 12-5 run ending just after the midway point of the half to take a 58-55 advantage on the second of Earlys back-to-back buckets. Wichita State held Kentucky at arms length until a roller from Young put the Wildcats up 70-69 with 2:49 to play. Game Notes These programs met for the first time on Sunday ... ARLINGTON, Texas – J. Adidas Zx 700 Dames Sale .P. Arencibia was a busy man on Friday afternoon, unable to find the time to speak to the Toronto media between advanced meetings and his pregame workout and batting practice routine. The brief reunion between Arencibia and the club that drafted him, this three-game weekend series at Globe Life Park, marks the first opportunity for the former catcher of the future to address public comments he made about the Blue Jays during a March media scrum at the Rangers spring training facility in Surprise, Arizona. "That has nothing to do with us," said manager John Gibbons, who added he wasnt previous aware of Arencibias comments. "We wish him well. Hes a good guy. He comes to play everyday. I cant get caught up in that." Arencibia seemed to spare no one and nothing, offering comment on what he perceived to be the Blue Jays misplaced priorities. "Theres not a lot of riff-raff going on except for baseball stuff," he said. "Its cool. Its refreshing to be part of something that is really baseball emphasized." The clubhouse leadership got addressed. "Elvis (Andrus), (Adrian) Beltre, you have these guys who are leaders and have been around for a while, they make it easy," Arencibia said at the time. "Its not like you come in here and youre walking on egg shells." If hes more comfortable in his new surroundings, the results arent showing it. Entering Fridays play, Arencibia had appeared in fewer than half of Texas games (19), and was hitting a measly .140/.190/.246 with one home run. This off a disastrous 2013, Arencibias last in Toronto, during which hit for a .194 batting average and posted a meager on-base plus slugging percentage of .592 despite hitting 21 home runs. He was non-tendered by the Blue Jays in the offseason and signed a one-year deal with Texas in free agency. The Rangers are missing their starting catcher, Geovany Soto, and dont expect him back from a knee injury until later in June. In the meantime, Arencibia is splitting the catching duties with Robinson Chirinos, a one-time Chicago Cubs prospect who spent the better part of a decade in the minor leagues. There is talk around Arlington that when Soto comes back, Arencibia will be the odd man out. Arencibia is, by nature, a sensitive individual who seemed to read and hear everything critical written and said about him. He took it to heart. That same personality trait affected his relationship with members of the Blue Jays organization. Coaches would offer advice, try to help, but he would perceive constructive criticism as personal slight. Toronto decided Arencibia was no longer the right fit. Despite that, Gibbons still believes Arencibia can forge a successful big league career but he has some advice. "Its the ability to make some adjustments," said Gibbons. "He can do that. Ive seen him do it but hes got to be committed to it, you know. With J.P., hes still on the younger side of this game so hes got the time." INJURIES IN BASEBALL If youre a baseball fan in Toronto, youve likely got at least one friend who isnt and who enjoys pointing out how "soft" baseball players are when it comes to injuries. Youve heard it; the old "Hockey player takes a puck in the mouth and doesnt miss a shift but the baseball player tweaks his hamstring and misses three weeks" routine. One player whos spent time on the disabled list this season suggested to TSN.ca last week that if people felt the aches and pains baseball players do on a daily basis, theyd be visiting their doctors office on a regular basis. "Canadas the wrong place to say it because youve got hockey," said manager John Gibbons. "Those guys break a leg and theyre still playing so theres probably not a lot of sympathy on that end of it." Baseball, obviously, is a different sport. Its stop and start, which can wreak havoc on muscles that are in use one moment and then not again for a number of minutes. There arent intentionally violent collisions. Remember, too, the Blue Jays play on Astroturf, which has improved over the years but remains a thick rug blanketing a concrete surface. "The toughest part about baseball is its everyday," said Gibbons. "Youre banged up and a certain part of it is skill. If youre a pitcher or something like that, if youre hurting, you cant perform because youve got to throw a baseball or something like that." NAVARRO TO RETURN ON SATURDAY Catcher Dioner Navarro, whos been on the bereavement/family emergency list since Wednesday, will return in time for the second game of the Blue Jays three-game series in Texas. The club will make a corresponding roster move prior to the game. GETZ RETIRES One week ago, Chris Getz was a Toronto Blue Jay. Today, hes a former baseball player, having formally announced his retirement. "He called me the other day and he told me its something hes been contemplating anyway," said manager John Gibbons. "Hes a smart cookie. Getzys got it all together. He ended up getting his five years in but it was something that was kind of stewing with him a little bit because in the last couple of years hes been up and down." Getz and his wife are expecting a baby. He was designated for assignment on Sunday to accommodate Casey Janssens activation from the disabled list. The 30-year-old played 459 career games for three teams (Chicago White Sox, Kansas City, and Toronto), hitting .250/.309/.307 with 50 doubles and 89 stolen bases. Nike Air Max 90 Heren . Stephan Lichtsteiner scored five minutes into the second half for Juventus, which also hit the goal-frame twice through Mirko Vucinic. The UFC bantamweight champion has turned her celebrity and charisma into a budding career as an action film star. Many MMA fighters dream about it, but Rousey is actually doing it: With upcoming parts in "The Expendables 3," the newest "Fast and Furious" chapter and the "Entourage" movie, shes seeking success outside the cage even while her fighting career is near its peak. Rousey has little down time between Bulgarian film sets and endless training back home in Los Angeles, but she isnt looking to relax while her window of opportunity is open. "Theres really not much of a model for this," Rousey said. "Im making it up as I go along, and I think were really starting to find a groove and a way for it to work without me falling asleep in traffic again. Thats not good." When Rousey (9-0) makes her fourth title defence against Alexis Davis at UFC 175 on Saturday, she isnt the main event in the biggest show of the summer. Rousey honestly prefers sharing the bill at big events, this time with middleweight champion Chris Weidmans title defence against Lyoto Machida. On the big screen, Rousey wont always be satisfied with occasional supporting roles. She wants to be a star, preferably in a series of action adventures that could keep her occupied well after her MMA career ends. "One of my goals with the whole movie thing is I want to just be able to have my own franchise, and I feel like thats something that doesnt happen overnight," Rousey said. "Thats something you have to put a lot of thought into. Yeah, it would probably be extremely difficult for me to play Queen Elizabeth in some film, but I feel like a franchise is a great fit for me, because then I could find something that just fits me being myself. And then I would just have to continue to be myself, and I know Im good at that." For all of Rouseys outside interests and attention, her last two months have been focused on Davis (16-5), a Canadian expert in jiu-jitsu with a five-fight winning streak. Nike Air Max Thea Sale. Rousey is an enormous favourite, but she has yet to take an opponent lightly in the sport she took up professionally just over three years ago. "My sister is getting married, and the whole day Im going to be thinking about beating Alexis," Rousey said. "Anything that comes up that should make me super-excited, I really do not have the capacity to enjoy until I beat Alexis." Rousey made back-to-back films in 2013, but her bout with Davis is her third fight in just over six months. She has enjoyed the chance to get into a training groove after learning that ring rust is real when she returned in December from that 10-month absence and mildly struggled to finish off Miesha Tate. But Rousey showed a tough chin in that bout, and her tight schedule has kept her focused on improving the weaker aspects of her game. Rouseys Olympic-caliber judo skills and signature armbar submission hold are still vicious, yet her coaches are impressed by her improvements in striking. In the future, Rousey would prefer to fight twice per year, devoting the rest of her time to a film career. She also still dreams of a fight against Gina Carano, another rising actor whose MMA career inspired Rousey to step into the cage. But unlike Carano, Rousey insists she isnt leaving MMA in the foreseeable future, flatly laughing at any suggestion she cant pursue both careers. After UFC 175, shell begin promoting "The Expendables 3" for its Aug. 15 release, but shell likely fight again this year. "The UFC, theyve been good to me," Rousey said. "They took a lot of risks for me, and the way I show my appreciation is I take risks for them, and Im there when they need me. They know that if something falls out, they can call me on 24 hours notice and expect me to show up, be the Fight of the Night, perform and win and get out of there. And I know that they cant say that for a lot of their fighters." cheap nfl jerseys cheap jerseys cheap jerseys cheap nfl jerseys wholesale jerseys ' ' '
DENVER -- The sudden resurgence of the Denver Nuggets has a lot to do with Randy Foyes surprising scoring punch. Custom Detroit Lions Jersey . Foye had a season-high 24 points and the Nuggets beat the Oklahoma City Thunder 101-88 Thursday night for their fourth win in a row after an eight-game losing streak. It was the second time in two games that Foye, who hit six 3-pointers, established a season high. He was coming off a 23-point effort in which he made seven 3s in Denvers victory over the Boston Celtics on Tuesday. "I think its from my preparation, just understanding that every single day, no matter if I make six 3s in a game or seven, that I have to come in the next day and be ready to work," said Foye, who had struggled to find the range from beyond the arc earlier this season. "You put yourself in situations, if you work and do the right things, so that when you get in a game, nothing is foreign to you." All that work on polishing his perimeter shot has been paying off. Foye has made 17 of 29 3-point attempts during Denvers winning streak. His latest effort helped the Nuggets overcome Kevin Durants 30 points as Denver beat the Thunder for the first time in three tries this season. The teams meet a final time in Oklahoma City on March 24. Quincy Miller, making his first career start, had nine points while playing in place of Wilson Chandler, who remains day to day after straining his left groin against Boston, the team said. "To beat a team like that, without Wilson and having young guys in there and not being that deep on the bench, was huge," Foye said. Evan Fournier had 19 points, including four 3-pointers, and Ty Lawson added 16 points and 14 assists for Denver. Kenneth Faried grabbed 14 rebounds. Fournier said he fed off Foyes offensive output and the up-tempo pace set by Lawson. "It gives you confidence, and the crowd was great tonight. The passing game was great," Fournier said. "I had a lot of wide-open shots that made the work a lot easier." Reggie Jackson scored 13 and Derek Fisher 12 for the Thunder. Serge Ibaka, who missed Tuesday nights 112-101 loss at Utah because of flu-like symptoms, had eight points and 10 rebounds in his return. "Tonight, we didnt get a lot of good looks offensively and we didnt move the ball well enough," Thunder coach Scott Brooks said. "We took a lot of tough shots and our timing wasnt where it needs to be and we missed a lot of 3s. "Everything that happened tonight is correctable, which is good. Its not that we had issues. The fact is, everything that we did wrong tonight we can go back and get better." The Thunder missed their first 10 shots from 3-point range before Jackson and Durant each connected from beyond the arc on successive possessions, pulling Oklahoma City to 72-59. Denver answered with several 3s over the next 6 minutes. Foye and Fournier hit two apiece, Lawson converted a three-point play and the Nuggets extended their lead to 89-66 by the end of the third quarter. Overall, the Nuggets outscored the Thunder 29-15 in the third to build a 23-point lead heading into the final period. Oklahoma City didnt make a significant dent in Denvers advantage the rest of the way. Despite getting 24 points from Durant in the first half, the Thunder trailed 60-51. After Durant made a pair of free throws to pull Oklahoma City to 50-47 with 2:22 left in the second quarter, the Nuggets closed with a 10-4 burst punctuated by Lawsons 3-pointer from the top of the key in the waning moments of the period. TORONTO -- The starting rotation was identified as the weak link in the Blue Jays disappointing 2013 season but the men in charge of improving batting in recent seasons paid the price Monday. Michael Oher Womens Jersey . The 73-89 American League East team announced that hitting coach Chad Mottola and first base coach Dwayne Murphy would not be back with the major league staff. Mottola just completed his first season as the Jays hitting coach, a job Murphy held from 2010 to 2012. Bench coach DeMarlo Hale, pitching coach Pete Walker, third-base coach Luis Rivera and bullpen coach Pat Hentgen will return in their current roles under manager John Gibbons, the team said in a statement. Rivera was promoted from coaching assistant to third base coach for the 2013 season. Hale came over from the Baltimore Orioles while Walker moved from bullpen coach to succeed Bruce Walton as pitching coach. The Jays had a team batting average of .252 last season, 15th in the majors. Toronto was fourth in home runs with 185 and 11th in RBIs with 669, and the team had the sixth fewest strikeouts. In his season review, general manager Alex Anthopoulos pointed the finger at instability in the starting rotation as the teams biggest problem. The teams expected starting rotation -- R.A. Dickey, Mark Buehrle, Brandon Morrow, Josh Johnson and Ricky Romero -- cost US$46.75 million in salaries in 2013 and finishing with a combined 30-36 record. Dickey and Buehrle accounted for 26 of those wins. At the plate, catcher J.P. Arencibia regressed. Arencibia slugged 21 home runs but hit just .194 and struck out 148 times in 2013. Other Jays hitters also had bumpy times at the plate. Murphy, 58, batted .246 with 166 homers and 609 RBIs in 1,360 games with Oakland, Detroit and Philadelphia, winning six Gold Glove Awards as an outfielder. He joined the Jays system as a coach in January 2005, eventually becoming roving hitting instructor. He was named Torontos first base coach in June 2008 and added hitting coach duties for the 2010 season when the Jays hit a record 257 home runs. This season, he served as first base and outfield coach while yielding hitting duties to Mottola. Mottola, 41, began his coaching career in the Blue Jays system in 2007 after concluding a 16-year playing career that included 59 major-league and 1,801 minor-league games. A former first-round pick, he hit 239 homers in the minor leagues and four in the majors. He spent three seasons as hitting coach for the Jays Class-AAA farm team, then located in Las Vegas, before being promoted to the big club. HOUSTON -- Chris Paul had 30 points and 12 assists, Jamal Crawford added 22 points and the Los Angeles Clippers clinched their franchise-record third straight playoff appearance with a 118-107 win over the Houston Rockets on Saturday night. The loss broke a five-game winning streak for Houston, which was without two of its starters as Dwight Howard and Pat Beverley sat out with injuries. The Clippers trailed by as many as 15 points in the first half before using two big runs to take the lead. Houston stuck around for most of the second half before consecutive 3s by Matt Barnes and Darren Collison made it 114-101 late in the fourth. But it wasnt all good for Los Angeles, as Blake Griffin left in the first quarter with back spasms and didnt return, and Glen Davis missed the second half for disciplinary reasons after throwing a temper tantrum in the second quarter. James Harden led the Rockets with 32 points, and Chandler Parsons had 28. DeAndre Jordan added 20 points with 12 rebounds for the Clippers, who are third in the Western Conference. Crawford scored all of the Clippers points in an 8-1 run to start the fourth quarter and leave them up 96-85. An 8-3 run by Houston cut the lead to 102-96 with five minutes remaining. Harden capped it with a free throw after a technical foul on Paul. The Rockets scored the first five points of the third quarter to take a 63-61 lead. The teams exchanged the lead several times in that quarter before a layup by Ryan Hollins left Los Angeles up 88-84 entering the fourth quarter. The first half was filled with drama for the Clippers, who lost Griffin in the first quarter before the incident wiith Davis in the second. Cam Newton Womens Jersey. There appeared to be minimal contact between Griffin and Donatas Motiejunas before Griffin dropped to his hands and knees on his way to the bench after a timeout was called midway through the first quarter. He was clutching his lower back and remained on the court for a couple of minutes before being helped to his feet. He was biting his jersey as he gingerly walked off the court and to the locker room. Davis, whose nickname is "Big Baby," was apparently upset after being taken out in the second quarter and threw a temper tantrum at coach Doc Rivers. Rivers immediately sent him to the locker room and the team announced that he would not return after halftime. Davis was 0-for-2 with a steal in less than four minutes in the first half. With Griffin out, Houston used a 7-2 spurt to start the second quarter and extend its advantage to 40-25. The Rockets were still up by 15 points a couple of minutes later when the Clippers used an 8-0 run to cut the lead to 44-37. Harden made three free throws before another run -- this one 14-2 -- gave Los Angeles a 51-49 lead. Paul, who had 17 points in the second quarter, scored the first 10 points in that span with two 3s and he dished an alley-oop to Jordan to cap it with a dunk. Los Angeles led by a point soon after that before scoring six straight points to extend the lead to 61-54 Houston scored the last four points of the quarter to cut the lead to 61-58 at halftime. TORONTO -- The Maple Leafs hardly looked like a team who hadnt played in a week coming into their game against Calgary. Toronto showed little rust Saturday night as Phil Kessel scored two goals in a 3-2 victory over the Flames to stay perfect on the young season. That gives Kessel five goals so far after he posted a hat-trick in the clubs last game a week ago in Ottawa. "Theyre just going in," said Kessel. "I have some great linemates and they gave me the puck and were just clicking." Kessel also assisted on Joffrey Lupuls second-period goal as Toronto (3-0-0) rallied back from a 2-0 deficit. James Reimer made 30 saves in net for the Leafs. "To get off to this start, its huge for us," said Reimer. "Hopefully we can keep it rolling, stay confident and keep improving in our game. And hopefully when its all said and done well have had a pretty good season." Curtis Glencross and defenceman Scott Hannan each scored for the Flames (1-3-0) in the first period. It was Glencross third goal of the season as the Flames were looking to return home with back-to-back wins after dropping their first two games of the season. "We feel we made some mistakes and thats a game that we were in pretty good control of and should have found a way to win," said Flames Captain Jarome Iginla. Despite Leafs pressure early, the Flames took the lead at 4:18 when Lee Stempniak circled the net and threw the puck at the goal where Glencross redirected it past Reimer. Calgary doubled its advantage just one minute 22 seconds later as Hannan jumped up on a rush and fired a high knuckleball shot that eluded Reimer. The Toronto goalie didnt look as though he even saw the puck through the traffic. "He had no chance on those two goals," said Leafs head coach Ron Wilson. The Flames gifted the Leafs a chance to get right back with two penaltties a minute and a half apart. Nike Roshe LD-1000 SP. But even with the two-man advantage for 30 seconds, Calgary kept them out. The Leafs started their comeback just over a minute into the second as Kessel found a streaking Lupul whose shot got by Miikka Kiprusoffs left side. They were given an opportunity to tie the game when Olli Jokinen was sent to the box for four minutes for a high-sticking call on defenceman John-Michael Liles. Torontos power play, however, couldnt muster much on a night both sides went scoreless with the man advantage. Kessels equalizer came after Tyler Bozak broke up a Flames rush. Carl Gunnarsson picked up a loose puck and fed a long pass to the winger on the right side. Kessel then cut in on goal and went high to score his fourth of the season. Bozak finished the night with two assists. "Right now, we have some guys who arent engaged how they need to be at the end of the game and theres not enough urgency in their game," said Flames head coach Brent Sutter. "Weve got to get going here." The Leafs got the lead 41 seconds into the third as Kessel threw a pass across the face of the goal that hit a skate and Kiprusoff couldnt get across the prevent the puck from going in. There was no signal from the referee about a goal, but the horn sounded and after a brief review the goal stood. Reimer preserved the win for the leafs with six minutes left, making a handful of close range saves, including one off Nik Hagman and a late save off Rene Bourque in the dying seconds as Calgary pressed late for the equalizer that never came. "I think I just closed my eyes and screamed a little bit," said Reimer jokingly on his last-second save on Bourque. "I think it was a pass from behind the net to the guy out in front and I couldnt really have a good sight of the puck so I just kind of looked for it in the sides." cheap nfl jerseys cheap jerseys cheap jerseys cheap nfl jerseys wholesale jerseys ' ' '
BARCELONA, Spain -- Real Madrids bid for its first Spanish league title in four seasons received another setback Sunday after the leaders slipped to a 0-0 home draw with Valencia. Nike Roshe One Flyknit Review . Madrids third draw in five matches had cut its commanding 10-point lead over defending champions Barcelona to four with seven rounds to play. Barcelona piled the pressure on with a ninth consecutive league victory on Saturday, and Madrid failed to respond as Valencia came close to scoring with two shots that hit the goal-frame in a high-tempo thrilling match that shouldnt have ended scoreless. Madrid captain Iker Casillas said his team was paying the price for its complacency. "We cant sit back and live off a 10-point lead we built up in the past," said Casillas. "We are facing teams that are also playing for their own goals." Valencia goalkeeper Vicente Guaita ensured the good result for the visitors with a series of superb saves late on, including denying Angel Di Maria deep into stoppage time. "We knew it was important to hold off their counterattack and get out on the break ourselves," said Guaita. "The entire team made an excellent effort." Madrids stumble places further importance on its visit to Barcelonas Camp Nou in three rounds time. The struggling pacesetters visit crosstown rival Atletico Madrid on Wednesday and then welcome last-place Sporting Gijon before the sixth "clasico" match of the season that could go a long way to deciding the title. "Without a doubt, we expected to win the three points because each point is fundamental," Madrid midfielder Xabi Alonso said. "We still have the advantage, not what we had before, but we have to go forward." The result also stopped Madrid one game short of setting a club record of scoring in 42 straight games. Elsewhere, Levante beat Atletico Madrid 2-0 to move into fourth place, Athletic Bilbao edged out Sevilla 1-0 through Fernando Llorentes second-half header, and Mallorca drew 0-0 with Granada. Even though Valencia entered the match 30 points behind Madrid in the table, the team lived up to its third-place standing by putting up a spirited fight despite having top-scorer Roberto Soldado limited to the final 15 minutes due to physical problems. "This is a tough ground and Madrid is playing well, taking a point here has merit," said Valencia coach Unai Emery, who had been under growing criticism after his teams recent lacklustre run in the league. "We had our share of the ball and kept faith in our chances. We are satisfied since the team was solid until the end, and we had our options to win throughout." Cristiano Ronaldo had the first scoring opportunity eight minutes in when he let loose a blistering long-range blast that rattled the woodwork. Valencia also showed bite early on as defender Ricardo Costa headed against the post with Casillas flat on the ground after having parried Tino Costa long-range strike in the 25th. Madrid coach Jose Mourinho sent on Di Maria for striker Higuain Gonzalo at halftime, and the Argentina winger wasted no time in sliding a ball through for Ronaldo to force a one-handed save from Guaita. Tino Costa again made the home crowd gasp when he blasted against the top corner of the goal-frame in the 55th. As Madrids nerves began to show, Valencia looked to take advantage of its opponents runs forward with speedy reinforcements Pablo Hernandez and Jeremy Mathieu, who missed with a long-range shot just after Ronaldo tripped on the ball with only the keeper to beat. Madrid charged forward with Kaka on as a substitute, and Guaita had to stop Di Marias rising shot and make an excellent pair of reflex saves to repel back-to-back attempts by Karim Benzema from close range in the 78th. Di Maria had another chance to grab the win just before the whistle, but Guaita again was there to smother his low strike. "This team and these colours will fight until the end," said Madrid assistant Aitor Karanka, who spoke in place of Mourinho. On Saturday, Lionel Messi scored his 59th and 60th goals of the campaign to lead Barcelonas 4-1 win at Zaragoza. Also, it was: Getafe 2, Sporting Gijon 0; Rayo Vallecano 6, Osasuna 0; and Espanyol 2, Real Sociedad 2. Malaga plays Racing Santander on Monday to close round 31. The Montreal native won both her singles matches in a playoff tie with Slovakia, including the clinching match on Sunday, as Canada advanced to the 2015 Fed Cup World Group. Bouchard, at No. 18 in the WTA singles rankings, beat Jana Cepelova 7-6 (6), 6-3 in front of a spirited home crowd on the campus of Laval University. The win gave Canada a 3-0 lead in the best-of-five tie, and moved the Canadians into the elite World Group for the first time. "I wasnt happy with my level of play in both of my matches, but I am proud that I managed to win them both," said Bouchard, 20. "It was a difficult adjustment for me to switch to hard courts from clay, but sure both victories feel great. "It feels great to know that weve made history here. I played a lot of matches for Canada in the Fed Cup, and I won most of them, so I am proud that I kind of lead this team to the World Group." On Saturday, Bouchard beat No. 137 Kristina Kucova 7-6 (0), 2-6, 6-1 in a close match, to give Canada a 2-0 advantage, after teammate Aleksandra Wozniak of Blainville, Que., defeated Cepelova 4-6, 7-5, 7-5. Canada will now join the eight best teams on the planet in the World Group. A June 4 draw will determine Canadas next opponent, and whether that tie will be held at home or on the road in 2015. "Its a huge accomplishment in my opinion," team captain Sylvain Bruneau said. "Weve never been there. It all started with last years win over Columbia, then we beat Ukraine, a team that was ranked well ahead of us, then Serbia, and now Slovakia." Joining Bouchard and Wozniak (ranked No. 157) on the Canadian team were Torontos Sharon Fichman (No. 89) and Ottawas Gabriela Dabrowski (No. 199) Fichman and Dabrowski lost to Slovakia Janette Husarova and Anna Karolina Schmiedlova 4-6, 7-5, (9-11) in a doubles match later Sunday. After each team took a set, and with the 10-point tiebreakk tied 9-9, Fichman missed her final two shots to hand Slovakia the doubles victory. Nike Roshe One Breeze Size 5. Because Canada had already defeated Slovakia in the tie, the match was simply a formality. Bruneau said playing in the World Group will test Canadas depth. "We have to keep improving," he said. "Eugenie has to play at the level she is capable of, Aleksandra Wozniak needs to stay healthy, and Sharon Fichman -- who is still young at 23 -- can play both singles and doubles for us. We simply need depth, because there are no weak teams in the World Group, and many of the teams that play to qualify for the World Group have players ranked in the top 20." Bouchards win Sunday, particularly her strong second set, was crucial for Canada because she was struggling on Saturday and was very unhappy with her level of play. "I have to play much better, have to find consistency in my game," said Bouchard after her Saturdays win over Kucova. She struggled with that rhythm again on Sunday in a very close first set. Cepelova took a 5-3 lead, but just like during her match against Wozniak, she couldnt finish off points and lost a first set tiebreaker. Bouchard jumped to a quick 5-0 lead in the second set. When it looked like the last points would be just a formality, Cepelova put up a fight winning three games in a row and pushing Bouchard to make unforced errors. Serving for the match, Bouchard settled down and won last four out of six points to seal the victory. "It was a very good match" said Cepelova. "Just like yesterday I had my chances in the first set and couldnt close, but Eugenie was playing very well in those moments putting a lot of pressure on me." "We are very said as a team because we are not going to play in the World Group" added Cepelova. "It was very tough playing without our top three players (Dominika Cibulkova, Daniela Hantuchova and Magdalena Rybarikova) but Canada definitely deserved to win this tie. I think they are going to do very well in the World Group." cheap nfl jerseys cheap jerseys cheap jerseys cheap nfl jerseys wholesale jerseys ' ' '
NEW YORK -- The Toronto Raptors are the only thing standing between the Brooklyn Nets and a perfect 2014. Frank Clark Jersey . Patrick Patterson stole Deron Williams inbounds pass and made the go-ahead jumper with six seconds left, and the Raptors stopped a five-game winning streak by the Nets for the second time this month with a 104-103 victory Monday night. Toronto dropped Brooklyn to 10-2 in January and opened a 2 1/2-game lead in the Atlantic Division over the Nets, who would be on the doorstep of the division lead if they could solve their neighbours to the north. "These guys are chasing us but theyre putting it together. Theyre playing well," Raptors point guard Kyle Lowry said. "Were the only team that beat them in 2014. I mean, thats a tough team. They had the game and we made a play and we made a shot." Brooklyn had a three-point lead with 17 seconds left behind Paul Pierce in his best game with the Nets, but John Salmons scored on a drive with 12 seconds remaining before Brooklyn took its last timeout to move the ball into the frontcourt. Patterson stole the pass and fed Lowry, who got it back to Patterson for his jumper. Pierce was well off on a final attempt. "We knew they didnt have any timeouts. We guessed right and Patrick looked like Richard Sherman out there with that steal," Lowry said, referring to the Seattle Seahawks defensive back who attended the game with a number of his teammates. Lowry finished with 31 points and seven assists for the Raptors, who clinched a winning record in consecutive months for the first time since December 2009 and January 2010. Pierce scored 33 points, making seven three-pointers in a strong bounce-back performance after going just 2 for 10 in his emotional return to Boston on Sunday. He had the Nets in position to win after scoring their last nine points before Toronto stole it. "Last night was a tough game to play in, so many emotions," Pierce said. "It was good to just get some normalcy back today and I felt comfortable, relaxed. But it wouldve been better if we got the win today, though." The stunning turnaround deflated the crowd at Barclays Center for a back-and-forth game that drew a visit from several Seahawks, who will hold their Super Bowl media day Tuesday at the Nets last home, the Prudential Center in Newark, N.J. Sherman and Bobby Wagner grabbed a baseline seat in the first half, while Russell Wilson and other players sat above in a private box. Jonas Valanciunas had 20 points and 13 rebounds for the Raptors, who played without injured leading scorer DeMar DeRozan. Terrence Ross, who tied a franchise record with 51 points and made 10 3-pointers Saturday, had a quiet 10 points on 3-of-9 shooting. But Toronto got a big boost from Patterson, who ditched the mask he began the game with for a recent broken nose and finished with 15 points off the bench. "This is all about our toughness, our resiliency," Patterson said, "no matter whos out there during the course of the game, no matter whos not playing." Andray Blatche scored 20 points for the Nets, who lost 96-80 in Toronto on Jan. 11, a night after they played two overtimes in a victory over Miami. Lowry scored six straight points before Amir Johnson made a pair of free throws during an 8-0 run that gave Toronto a 94-85 lead with about eight minutes to play. The Nets answered with nine in a row to tie it on Alan Andersons jumper, and after Valanciunas basket, Pierce nailed consecutive three-pointers to make it 100-96 with 2:37 remaining. "Paul played well," teammate Kevin Garnett said. "He totally carried us for that fourth quarter, that second half, and we all came in and just said at the end of the game weve got to make plays, weve got to close games out and tonight we didnt do that." Toronto cut it to one and had a chance for the lead when Lowry stole Williams pass intended for Pierce, but Williams redeemed himself by drawing an offensive foul on Lowry with 19 seconds left. Pierce then made two free throws, but the Nets couldnt overcome Williams next giveaway. "Two turnovers in the last minute of the game, its not what I typically do, but thats how it goes sometimes," Williams said. There were eight lead changes in an entertaining second quarter, two in the final 1.3 seconds. Andersons three-pointer put the Nets up by two, but Lowry beat the buzzer from beyond halfcourt to give Toronto a 57-56 halftime lead. NOTES: DeRozan had made 125 consecutive starts. ... BOSTON -- The Boston Red Sox are moving Daniel Bard to the bullpen -- temporarily, at least. Nike Roshe One Slip España . With rain washing out Bards scheduled start against the New York Yankees on Sunday night, manager Bobby Valentine said Bard will skip his turn in the rotation and be available in relief. But when the Red Sox need a fifth starter, it will be Bard. "As the plan is now, hes our fifth starter," Valentine told reporters Sunday after the postponement. A day after the Yankees overcame a nine-run deficit with back-to-back seven-run innings to beat Boston 15-9, the finale of their three-game series was postponed by rain. The Red Sox called the game about five hours before the scheduled 8:05 p.m. first pitch -- no doubt because of rain that was falling all day and expected to continue through the night. But it didnt hurt that the Red Sox could use the day off. "Its been a tough week. If I had to rate them all, this is one of the toughest," Valentine said Sunday. "When youre 4-10, its not easy to say that everything is going perfectly. But I think theyre good players, high quality, and were going to win a lot of games." Bard did well as the setup man last year, but after closer Jonathan Papelbon signed with Philadelphia the Red Sox opted to bring in Andrew Bailey for the ninth inning and move Bard into the rotation. Now that Bailey is injured -- and Alfredo Aceves and Mark Melancon have struggled -- the call for Bard to take over as closer is growing louder. Valentine said everything would be considered. "I dont know that there are changes right now that were ready to make," he said. Bard has made two starts, one bad and one better, but he lost both and has a 4.63 ERA so far this year. Valentine said he would like to use Bard in the eighth inning because hes comfortable with the role. Jon Lester is already in Minnesota to start Monday nights game against the Twins, and hell be followed in the rotation by Josh Beckett, Clay Buchholz and Felix Doubront. Bards next turn would be Friday. The Yankees were expected to push the rotation back a day, with scheduled Sunday starter CC Sabathia going Monday instead at Texas and Hiroki Kuroda to face Yu Darvish on Tuesday. The Yankees pounded the Boston bullpen for seven runs in the seventh inning and seven more in the eighth, their biggest rally after a nine-run deficit since April 18, 1950, when they trailed the Red Sox 9-0 after five innings and went on to win 15-10. The Detroit Tigers rallied from an 11-1 deficit to beat the Washington Senators 18-12 on June 12, 1938. "To come back in the 7th inning being down 9-nothing to the Red Sox, to be able to get the win, thats a big win for us," said Nick Swisher, who hit a grand slam and had six RBIs. "Thats all I can really say. I really dont know what else to say." The Red Sox went 7-20 in September to miss a wild-card spot by one game, leading to a tumultuous off-season in which general manager Theo Epstein and manager Terry Francona departed. Valentine replaced Francona, but the team is now 4-10 in his tenure and the Fenway fans were booing him more loudly with each trip to the mound on Saturday. Afterward, he was asked if he had any regrets about leaving the broadcast booth to take the job. "This is all a challenge," he said. "This is my job. If they said it was only going to be for the good days, I probably wouldnt have come. The challenges are great." Because Sunday nights game was scheduled to be on ESPN, Francona was supposed to be in the booth to analyze his former team. The rainout saves the Red Sox from that awkward situation. It also delays the Boston debut of newly acquired outfielder Marlon Byrd, who was traded to the Red Sox from the Chicago Cubs on Saturday night. Byrd was scheduled to start in centre field as Boston tries to fill in for the injuries to Carl Crawford and Jacoby Ellsbury. Valentine tried to be optimistic about the fact that Byrd, a 2010 NL All-Star, has just three hits in 43 at-bats so far this season. "He isnt hitting right now; thats the good news," Valentine said, "which means hes saved up all his hits for us, which is a good thing for him to do." The Red Sox also placed OF Jason Repko on the 15-day disabled list and said they would bring up 1B Lars Anderson from Triple-A. Nike Roshe One Slip Negro . And hes not about to let up. The Brazil No. 1 is headed to the World Cup and says Englands Queens Park Rangers want him back afterwards. QPRs loan deal with Toronto called for the 34-year-old Brazilian to stay with the MLS side through December but Toronto manager Ryan Nelsen says there is a "gentlemans agreement" that the English team can have him back sooner. Cesar, while confirming QPR wants him back in August, is unsure of where his future lies. "Im contracted still in England for a few more years," he said through an interpreter Tuesday in his final meeting with the Toronto media before leaving to join the Brazilian World Cup team. "Im contracted to return in August after the World Cup but I really dont know what the future holds after the World Cup so I cant give you a clear answer as to my fate after the tournament." Asked if he thought his time in Toronto was over, Cesar switched to English: "I dont know. Depends (what happens) after the World Cup." The Cesar move to Toronto was always a marriage of convenience, with a short time frame. QPR, relegated to the second-tier Championship, wanted to reduce its salary obligations and Cesar was a prime target, with weekly wages pegged at between 70,000 and 100,000 pounds (C$128,500 and $183,500). Manager Harry Redknapp, who inherited Cesar from Mark Hughes, made former England keeper Rob Green his No. 1 so Cesar needed a place to play to hold down his Brazil job. There were reported links to Italys Napoli and Brazils Gremio, but Nelsen, who is close to Cesars agent and knew the player from his own days at QPR, convinced him to come to Toronto. For TFC, the loan was like a fourth designated player. And Nelsen knew that Cesars influence on 25-year-old goalie Joe Bendik would last long after the Brazilian had departed. QPR meets Derby County in the Championship playoff final at Wembley this weekend with the winner moving up into the Premier League. But it seems unlikely that Cesar will finish out his contract in a QPR jersey whatever happens on the weekend. The English team, taking advantage of what hopefully will be a World Cup showcase in Brazil, is more likely to try to sell him and recoup some of its investment. MLS would be unlikely to take on the cost of Cesars contract and QPR would no doubt want more than it is likely getting under the current loan deal. Bendik, last years No. 1 in Toronto, will take over in goal for Toronto, either for the short-term or long. He has played the last three games for Toronto, two in the Amway Canadian Championship and in Saturdays 2-0 league win over the New York Red Bulls. Nike Roshe One Rojas baratas. Cesar missed the weekend game with the flu. Nelsen, while keeping the door open, says hes "not sure" that Cesar will be back after the World Cup. "Julios been absolutely fantastic here and if he decides to stay, brilliant. But if he decides to move on and QPR decides to move on, then Toronto will move on -- having had a great experience of Julio with us." Privately, the club does not expect him back. Cesar played seven MLS games for Toronto this season going 3-4. With just nine goals conceded in eight league games, defence has been solid at Toronto. The offence has produced just nine goals, with Englands Jermain Defoe accounting for four. Speaking through an interpreter, Cesar said his time in Toronto has prepared him well for the World Cup. "I feel like Im a better person being here after three months and experiencing what the club has had to offer me and getting me ready for the World Cup," he said. Cesar says retirement after the World Cup is not in the cards. "Im still under contract for the next two years. So even if I win the World Cup, Im going to keep to my word, Im going to return to my club (QPR) and help them win championships. Thats what I was contracted to do, so thats what Im going to do." QPR could also read that as "Im going to collect what Im due." The veteran Brazilian has already won five Italian titles, seven Italian cups, the Champions League and the FIFA Club World Cup. He was named Serie A Goalkeeper of the Year twice and nominated for the Ballon dOr award in 2009. He has been a class act in Toronto, winning praise from coaches and teammates alike for his ability as a player and easy-going personality. "Its just a pleasure to have a man like that on the team," Nelsen said of Cesar. Bendik, who started the season as a backup to the Brazilian despite signing a new, enriched deal after winning the No. 1 job last year, has credited Cesar for making him a better goalie and calls him a friend. In other team news, Nelsen has injury concerns with Brazils Jackson (concussion) and fellow midfielder Jonathan Osorio (hamstring and hairline fracture in his hand). Jackson has yet to resume training and Osorio, who is due for a scan on his hamstring, seems doubtful for Friday nights game in Kansas City. Nelsen said the Canadian international may have come back too soon from a previous hamstring injury, which extended his absence from the lineup. "We have to be a bit careful with him," said Nelsen. cheap nfl jerseys cheap jerseys cheap jerseys cheap nfl jerseys wholesale jerseys ' ' '

They telephone each other at least once a week to talk shop, work together on an off-season passing camp, and have appeared in a number of television commercials. Each had a chance to host "Saturday Night Live." Each is a Super Bowl MVP. There is something else about Peyton and Eli Manning. First and foremost, theyre brothers. They know each other inside out. They root for each other. They bleed for each other. Theyre family. So when little brother Eli says Peyton doesnt need to beat the Seattle Seahawks and win a second Super Bowl to secure his legacy as one of the NFLs greatest quarterbacks, believe him. "I think Peytons already created his own legacy," Eli said Thursday during a conference call 10 days before Peyton and Broncos meet the Seahawks in the Super Bowl at MetLife Stadium. "Hes played at a very high level for a long period of time and hes overcome injuries and obviously set numerous records and been on a lot of playoff teams, playing in his third Super Bowl. I dont think thats something that hes worried about. "There will always be arguments about who is the greatest? Or who is the best," Eli said. "I think if youre in that argument, if youre one of the names thrown around in there, I think youve already created a pretty good legacy." Peytons resume is impressive: four-time MVP, 13-time Pro Bowler, seven-time All Pro. Sure, there is only one title. Two would be the icing, and put him on par with Eli. For the past few days, Eli Manning said his big job has been to get his brother extra tickets for the first outdoor Super Bowl in a cold-weather city. Barring late add-ons, hes already hit the request number. "Obviously, I know what its like with the Super Bowl and a lot of people are trying to figure out if theyre coming to the games, so Im trying to take some of that stress off of him and help manage some of those things," Eli said. "That way, he can focus on work and getting the game plan." While the two have exchanged some text messages, the brothers have not seen each other since Denvers win oover New England in the AFC title game on Sunday. Nike Air Max 1 Sale. They hope to get together early next week in the New York for a few hours, when Eli will give Peyton the secrets about playing in MetLife Stadium and his insight into playing Seattle, which the Giants did on here on Dec. 15. The way the Seahawks defence dominated New York that day in a 23-0 win, Peyton might well ignore the advice. After that, Peyton will take centre stage during the weeklong media frenzy and Eli will get ready to watch only his second game at the Meadowlands. The first was in 2003 when the Jets crushed Peyton and the Colts in an AFC playoff game at Giants Stadium. Eli was still at Ole Miss. There is some coincidence about this game. When Eli won his second Super Bowl in 2012, it was in Peytons stadium in Indianapolis. "Im rooting for him," Eli said. "Its not like watching any other football game. If Im watching two other teams, Im kind of casually watching and dont really care who wins or loses. Here, its a little bit more nerve-racking. I dont get nervous playing football games, I get nervous watching my brother play, and I guess because Ive been doing this for a long time and you kind of know key moments and key plays." Eli does not think the cold will be a factor in the game. The bigger issue for his brother would be snow and wind. That might affect the Broncos more because they are a passing offence. The Seahawks are more run-oriented. Coming into the season, Eli hoped the Giants might become the first time to play the Super Bowl in their own stadium. A 0-6 start derailed that and led to a 7-9 season that left New York out of the playoffs for the fourth time in five years. If hes not going, Manning is happy his brother made it. There is a little jealousy, too. "It kind of makes you want to get back to that situation and kind of get back to working and getting your mind set on doing whatever I have to do to get the Giants back to the championship games and get back to Super Bowls," Eli said. Sunday, hell watch, and root for Peyton, just like his big brother did for him in 2008 and 12, when the Giants won it all. WASHINGTON -- Heading toward the plate after the 500th homer of this career, Albert Pujols glanced ahead and saw a throng of Los Angeles Angels teammates waiting right there to greet him. Cheap Jerseys China . He was pleased by the outpouring of support. He also had a message. "I was pretty emotional running the bases and when I ... looked at all these guys coming out, it was hard," Pujols said. "But I just told them, Weve got a game to win." Not a problem, especially with Pujols hitting like the Pujols of old. Continuing a strong stretch, the Angels first baseman became the first major leaguer to hit his 499th and 500th homers in the same game, driving in five runs Tuesday night to help Los Angeles beat the Washington Nationals 7-2. "I knew this year, it was going to happen, whether it was tonight, tomorrow, two months from now," Pujols said. "So my goal was just to prepare myself every day to try to help this organization win." The three-time NL MVP connected twice off right-hander Taylor Jordan (0-3) -- a three-run homer in the first inning and two-run drive in the fifth. Hes the 26th player in big league history to reach the milestone. Pujols also hit his 400th homer at Nationals Park. "I admire the man. I admire his ability and the way he goes about playing the game, and I have for some time," said Washington manager Matt Williams, who also played against Pujols. "I just wish hed do it against somebody else." Pujols is the first player to collect his 499th and 500th homers in the same game, according to STATS. About three months past his 34th birthday, hes also the third-youngest to get to 500; Alex Rodriguez and Jimmie Foxx were 32. Making a recent surge, Pujols has eight homers in the past 13 games. He leads the Angels with 19 RBIs. "Thats the Albert Im used to seeing," Angels outfielder Mike Trout said. "Full, healthy, 100 per cent healthy." The 500th homer went to left-centre field at Nationals Park, on an 89 mph pitch with the count at 1-2. The ball was grabbed -- and later given to Pujols -- by a man who identified himself as Thomas Sherrill, a 29-year-old Air Force staff sergeant from Pomona, Calif. "That pitch was supposed to be low and away," Jordan said, "and I guess I tried too hard to get it there." Pujols clapped his hands together a few strides before trotting home, then pointed both index fingers to the sky. Fans gave Pujols a partial standing ovation, and he acknowledged it by tipping his red batting helmet as he approached the dugout. After heading down the steps, he came back out for a curtain call. "Thats something you tell your kids when you get older. I dont know the next guy whos going to hit 500," said Angels pitcher Tyler Skaggs (2-0), who gave up two runs in seven innings. "Nobody knows how to react. You dont see it too much." Teammates said that Pujols told shortstop Erick Aybar before the game he was going to hit two homers. "Alberts Albert. If he tells you something, hes going to do it," Trout said. "Im not surprised he said that, because Ive seen it before. Hes told me, Im going deep tonight." Jordan allowed six runs and eight hits in five innings. Washington entered the game with a majors-worst 22 errors and third baseman Anthony Rendon added two more. After a couple of down-for-him years with the Angels following 11 transcendent seasons with the St. Louis Cardinals, Pujols appears ready to reclaim his spot among the games elite hitters. He homered Friday and Saturday at Detroit to lift his total to 498, and now hes reached the round number of 500 -- a total that remains hallowed despite losing lustre lately because so many players surpassed it. Of the 26 members of the 500-homer club, 11 reached the mark in the last 15 years, according to STATS. Gary Sheffield was the previous player to do it, hitting No. 500 in April 2009. "You dont see 500, obviously, every night," Pujols said. "Its been a great career." The Cardinals selected him in the 13th round of the 1999 draft, with the 402nd overall selection -- a steal if ever there was one. Pujols won a batting title in 2003, National League MVP awards in 2005, 2008 and 2009, and World Series titles with the Cardinals in 2006 and 2011. Pujols was the first player to hit 30 homers in each of his first 12 seasons and the second -- after Al Simmons in 1924-34 -- to reach 100 RBIs in each of his first 10. A nine-time All-Star, Pujols hit 455 homers with the Cardinals. After his decade-plus of excellence in St. Louis, Pujols signed a 10-year deal worth $240 million with the Angels following the 2011 season. Almost immediately, the 6-foot-3 slugger appeared to be slowing down. He hit .285 with 30 homers in 2012 -- impressive numbers for most players, but career lows at that point for Pujols. Things got even worse in 2013. Injuries limited Pujols to 99 games, and he was sidelined from July 26 on. He ended up hitting .258 with 17 homers and 64 RBIs. But not surprisingly, Pujols bat did not stay quiet for long. Sitting at a news conference with the balls he hit over the fence Tuesday resting near his left elbow, Pujols smiled as he said: "Now weve got to start on the next milestone, I guess." NOTES: Washington RHP Doug Fister threw 44 pitches in three innings at extended spring training in Florida on Tuesday. ... Miami relievers retired three batters with the potential tying run in scoring position in the eighth inning, and the Marlins beat Colorado for the second night in a row, 4-3.ANAHEIM, Calif. - Between the 20-year-old goalie with 39 saves and the 21-year-old forward with two goals, Teemu Selanne wasnt sure which youngster deserved the most credit for propelling the Anaheim Ducks veterans to the brink of the Western Conference finals. Selanne is only certain the Ducks youth movement is happening at an ideal time for their Stanley Cup hopes. John Gibson was outstanding in his second career playoff start, and Devante Smith-Pelly scored two goals 1:23 apart in the second period of the Ducks 4-3 victory over the Los Angeles Kings in Game 5 on Monday night, putting Anaheim up 3-2 in the second-round series. Selanne is older than Gibson and Smith-Pelly combined, but the Finnish Flash knows the kids are why the Ducks are in position to finish off their Southern California rivals in Game 6 on Wednesday after a raucous meeting at Honda Center. "They answered the bell again," said Selanne, who had a sublime assist on Smith-Pellys first goal. "Devo has all the tools. Gibby is rock-solid. Theyre pretty special players, and they both took care of it for us tonight. You need special contributions from everybody to do what were trying to do." Nick Bonino and Jakob Silfverberg also scored for the Ducks, who jumped out to a three-goal lead in the second period and hung on behind their rookie goalie, earning the first home victory by either team in the series. Smith-Pelly is the Ducks unlikely leader with five post-season goals after a superbly energetic effort in Game 5. He has three goals in the past two games, capitalizing on his promotion to Anaheims top line with captain Ryan Getzlaf and Corey Perry after scoring just two goals in his 19 regular-season appearances for the Ducks. "Were just having a lot of fun," Smith-Pelly said. "This is what you dream about, playing in the playoffs." The Ducks also got another standout game from Gibson, who shut out the Kings in Game 4 to even the series in his Anaheim playoff debut. "I think I got tested more," Gibson said. "Its fun. Im just trying to take it all in and win some hockey games." Gibsons fifth career NHL appearance was tougher than the first four — but his teammates also helped out much more this time, scoring four regulation goals against the Kings for the first time in the rivals 10 total meetings this season. Marian Gaborik scored his NHL-best seventh and eighth goals of the post-season for the Kings, including a redirection with 5:48 left to trim Anaheims lead to one goal. Los Angeless pressed throughout the final minutes to finish with a playoff-high 42 shots, outshooting the Ducks 14-2 in the third period, but couldnt beat Gibson for the equalizer. Cheap Jerseys. . "We were talking about how we have to get to Gibson, and if we do, things are happening," Gaborik said. "If we get shots through and try to go to the net, rebounds are there, and we got some chances. We have to keep doing that and we have to clean a lot of stuff up. Were coming home. Were confident we can win and come back here." Trevor Lewis also scored and Jonathan Quick stopped 20 shots for the Kings, who will face their fifth elimination game of the post-season at Staples Center on Wednesday. Theyre on their second three-game skid of the playoffs — bookending a six-game winning streak. The road team had won every game in the first series between these rivals separated by 30 miles of freeway, but the Ducks snapped the Kings four-game road playoff winning streak dating to their 0-3 comeback in the first round against San Jose. "Tonight isnt about the third (period), its about the second," Kings captain Dustin Brown said. "We made too many easy mistakes, and we had to try to come back the way we did. Its too hard." After Bonino and Lewis traded goals in the first period, Anaheim took the lead for good 1:11 into the second when Mathieu Perreaults shot off Selannes pass glanced off Smith-Pellys toe in the crease. "I didnt really do anything," Smith-Pelly said with a grin. Smith-Pelly then broke in alone on Quick 83 seconds later when Getzlaf intercepted Martinezs pass in the neutral zone, and Silfverberg put the Ducks up 4-1 midway through the period. The Kings gathered themselves and finally capitalized on a double-minor by Smith-Pelly when Gaborik scored in front, getting his fourth goal in the series three games in Anaheim. After several minutes of fruitless work for the Kings, Brown shovelled a backhand at the net and Gaborik redirected it home. NOTES: Perreault returned to Anaheims lineup after missing Game 4 with an injury, and rookie Rickard Rakell was scratched. DENVER - Kenneth Faried had 20 points and Aaron Brooks hit four straight free throws in the final 12 seconds, helping the injury-riddled Denver Nuggets hold off the Washington Wizards 105-102 on Sunday night. cheap jerseys from china . Randy Foye added 17 for a Nuggets team that was missing J.J. Hickson, who suffered torn ligament in his right knee on Friday. Wilson Chandler also didnt play (strained left hip) and Jan Vesely didnt return after bruising his rib cage late in the third quarter. Bradley Beal wound up with 21 points as the Wizards wrapped up a four-game road swing with a 1-3 record. Trevor Ariza scored 15 of his 18 points in the first quarter and John Wall added 15, but also had eight turnovers. Evan Fourniers floating jumper with 7:36 remaining started a 7-0 run to give the Nuggets a 91-84 lead, which they wouldnt relinquish. Wall struggled down the stretch, turning the ball over twice in the five minutes on offensive charges. But Wall had a steal and a layup with 12.6 seconds remaining to cut Denvers lead to 99-97. Brooks then stepped up to the line and hit two free throws. Beal followed with a dunk when the Nuggets fell asleep on an in-bounds pass with 10.7 seconds remaining. Brooks was then fouled and hit two more free throws to seal Denvers fifth straight home win. The Wizards led by as many as 14 points in the first half, only to squander it away. Ariza put the Wizards up 49-47 at halftime when he hit a 20-footer as the buzzer sounded. Hickson was the latest player to be lost by the Nuggets. They were already without Danilo Gallinari (left ACL), JaVale McGee (broken tibia) and Nate Robinson (left ACL), who all have undergone season-ending operations. Vesely was having one of his best games of the season, before leaving the court late in the third quarter with a bruised rib cage. He had 10 points in 15 minutes. Andre Miller made his return to the Pepsi Center for the first time since New Years Day, when he got into an on-court confrontation with former coach Brian Shaw. Miller, now a backup guard with the Wizards, was originally suspended by the Nuggets, but it was later rescinded. Miller stayed away from the squad until he was dealt to the Wizards on Feb. 20. Both Miller and Shaw said before the game theyve moved on from the incident. To show it, they shook hands when Miller entered the game to start the second quarter. "Im sure both of us didnt take this personal," Shaw said. "Its unfortunate that it had to happen and neither one of us wanted that to happen but I dont have a problem with him. I have the most respect for Andre Miller." NOTES: Miller had two points in his return. ... Denvers bench scored 52 points. Darrell Arthur led the way with 15. ... The deal, which runs through the 2020 season, is the largest ever awarded to a player subject to American draft rules with less than two years of service time. Cubs first baseman Anthony Rizzo signed a $41 million, seven-year contract last May. Simmons, 24, showed power potential in 2013, when he hit 17 home runs, but he earned the big contract with his defence. He won his first Gold Glove award in 2013, when he led the major leagues with 499 assists. "We feel that Andrelton is one of the premier shortstops in the game today, and we are happy that we were able to agree on this multiyear contract," general manager Frank Wren said in a statement released by the team. The Braves this month also reached multiyear agreements with first baseman Freddie Freeman, outfielder Jason Heyward, closer Craig Kimbrel and right-hander Julio Teheran, committing $280.7 million to the rising stars, including Simmons. Simmons hit .248 and drove in 59 runs last season. He earned the new contract after playing in only 206 career games. Simmons received a $1 million signing bonus and will earn $1 million this season. He will earn $3 million in 2015, $6 million in 2016, $8 million in 2017, $11 million in 2018, $13 million in 20119 and $15 million in 2020. wholesale jerseys. It has been a busy month for the Braves and Wren. On Sunday, the team agreed to a $42 million, four-year contract with Kimbrel, 25, the All-Star closer. That came two days after the 23-year-old Teheran agreed to terms on a six-year, $32.4 million deal. Earlier this month, the Braves announced multiyear deals with a pair of 24-year-old hitters — Freeman and Heyward. Freeman, the All-Star first baseman, agreed to the biggest contract in Braves history — $135 million for eight years. Of all the new deals, only Heywards is for fewer than four years. Heyward, the outfielder who won his first Gold Glove in 2012, signed for two years and $13.3 million. Even management has been included in the wave of new deals. Manager Fredi Gonzalez and Wren also have been given contract extensions. Simmons ranks with Freeman, Kimbrel, Teheran, Heyward, Justin Upton, left-hander Mike Minor and others as the foundation for the Braves future. Chipper Jones retired after the 2012 season, and Tim Hudson and catcher Brian McCann departed as free agents after last season, leaving the team that won 96 games last year with a young roster. Simmons hit only .216 against left-handers last season, and he hit only .219 in 283 at-bats as a leadoff hitter. The team took off when Heyward was moved to the leadoff spot, and Simmons was more productive in other spots in the lineup. cheap nfl jerseys cheap jerseys cheap jerseys cheap nfl jerseys wholesale jerseys ' ' '
ORLANDO, Fla. Yaya Toure Jersey . -- Baseballs annual gathering of general managers began Monday when $14.1 million qualifying offers were turned down by all 13 free agents who received them from their former teams, a group that included Jacoby Ellsbury, Mike Napoli and Stephen Drew of the World Series champion Boston Red Sox. Three New York Yankees also said no thanks: Robinson Cano, Curtis Granderson and Hiroki Kuroda. The others turning down the offers were Atlantas Brian McCann, Cincinnatis Shin-Soo Choo, Clevelands Ubaldo Jimenez, Kansas Citys Ervin Santana, St. Louis Carlos Beltran, Seattles Kendrys Morales and Texas Nelson Cruz. "I dont think its that particularly surprising that all the offers were turned down across baseball," Red Sox general manager Ben Cherington said. New York Mets GM Sandy Alderson interpreted the turndowns as an indicator a bull market is possible. "That ought to tell you a little bit about their expectations," he said. If a player who turned down the offer signs with a new team, his former club would receive an extra amateur draft pick at the end of the first round next June. All 22 players given qualifying offers have said no during two offseasons under the new system. "When we made the qualifying offers, we did not expect anyone to accept. We would have been happy if any of them did," Yankees general manager Brian Cashman said. Cashman was an early arrival at the sessions, with some GMs due to check in on Monday night. In addition to early talks with agents and trade feelers, GMs will hold rules discussions, such as whether there should be any limitations on bowling over catchers. Owners then arrive for their fall meeting on Thursday morning, with expanded instant replay on the agenda. A baseball official familiar with the deliberations, speaking to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity, said management probably would approve the additional video review by umpires in phases. The go-ahead to spend the funds probably will occur Thursday. Approval of the rules likely would be put off until the January owners meeting. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because no statements were authorized. For expanded replay to start next season, agreements with the World Umpires Association and Major League Baseball Players Association would have to be reached. "Both parties are working diligently to iron out every possible scenario that could occur with a replay," WUA President Joe West said. These meetings usually are the spark for trades and signings later in the off-season. The pace figures to increase during the winter meetings, to be held in nearby Lake Buena Vista from Dec. 9-12. "These meetings will probably be mostly about just getting information," Cherington said. "Id be surprised if anything actually happens in the next three days." With many clubs seeking top starting pitching, Tampa Bay is expected at some point to trade 2012 AL Cy Young Award winner David Price, who is eligible for free agency after the 2015 season. Detroits Max Scherzer, favoured to win a Cy Young on Wednesday, can be a free agent in 12 months and the Tigers may try to gauge what he would bring in return. Texas would consider offers for middle infielders Ian Kinsler and Elvis Andrus to clear a starting spot for Jurickson Profar. After missing the playoffs for just the second time in 19 years, the Yankees figure to be a central figure in the market. Cano, an All-Star second baseman, has been seeking a 10-year deal in excess of $300 million. Re-signing Cano is a top priority, but at some point the Yankees would have to move on. "Those type of players dictate the dance steps," Cashman said. "So well do the dance as long as we can but, yeah, at some point you cant do that forever. But were in the very front end of this thing, so the music hasnt even started yet." While New York wants to get its payroll under next years $189 million threshold for the luxury tax, the Yankees may not be able to unless Alex Rodriguez serves a major part of his 211-game suspension for violations of baseballs drug agreement and labour contract. The players union filed a grievance to overturn the penalty, and arbitrator Fredric Horowitz is expected to rule during the off-season. New York would be happy to save much of Rodriguezs $25 million salary if he misses a significant part of the season, but the Yankees would need to find a third baseman. "I have question marks clearly with the controversy at third. I have a question mark at short with Derek Jeter coming back from his ankle, a free agent in Cano," Cashman said. "So ultimately, I need to look and be open-minded to improving aspects when I can." With more cash available because of the increase in national broadcast contracts, more teams could be bidders. After cutting payroll by about 33 per cent over two years, the Mets may be ready to spend. And they could be interested in some of the players who turned down qualifying offers, because they wouldnt forfeit their first-round draft pick -- the top 10 selections in the opening round are protected, and those clubs would lose their second-round slot. "The fact that we only have to give up a second-round pick may give us a little bit of an edge," Alderson said. "Well see." He even joked about his newfound financial flexibility. "I was upstairs stacking our money," he said. "Dont get excited. They were all fives." Willy Caballero Jersey . Kerry wants to answer your emails at firstname.lastname@example.org. Hi Kerry, Welcome back! Im sure you heard Peter Forsbergs comments last week regarding Canadian referees in the gold medal game. Seems to me that he was questioning the integrity and impartiality.Did you think there was anything peculiar about this decision? Thanks,Ed Hi Ed: I am thrilled that NHL hockey is back and we can all adjust our watches back to the North American time zone! Initially, I was surprised by the expletive-deleted comments Peter Forsberg made the day before the Gold Medal game and following the IIHFs selection of four North American NHL officials to work the Canada-Sweden game. Even though the officials nationality and residency slanted exclusively toward Canadian soil, the timing of Forsbergs comments (the day before the puck was dropped) caused me to pause and consider the Swedish general managers motives. Ive seen plenty of "gamesmanship" from general managers and coaches during Stanley Cup playoffs and finals, but Peter Forsbergs public comments rank up near the top of the list in attempting to gain an advantage and competitive edge. Peter was not only a world class player but I also know him to be a very intense competitor. That being said, Peter is not a stupid man and made a calculated move in hopes of gaining some advantage for his players against a highly skilled Canadian team. I believe Peters comments were designed to put the IIHF on notice in the event he felt the need to complain post-game but most importantly to plant a seed in the head of each game official hoping his team might receive the benefit of the doubt when one could be offered. It also became a story the day before the game designed to deflect some of the pressure away from Team Sweden players. I dont believe that Peter Forsberg would honestly question the integrity and impartiality of the NHL Officials that were assigned to work the game. Kelly Sutherland, Brad Meir, Derek Amell and Greg Devorski were selected on the merit of their work during the Olympics and weere regarded as the very best! They are professionals in the true sense of the word. Richard Wright Jersey. The players have more confidence in the NHL officials ability than their International counterparts. Swedish team captain Niklas Kronwall of the Detroit Red Wings believed that both teams would benefit from North American officials when he was quoted as saying, "We are used to having referees from USA and Canada in the NHL. We know their standards so I think its easier for us too if the referees are from there." And teammate Erik Karlsson of the Ottawa Senators agreed. Prior to 1998, the IIHF would not assign an official to work a game in which his country of nationality was participating in. Only neutral officials were assigned. That changed in Nagano with the inclusion of NHL players and officials. The best officials were assigned to the games regardless of their country of nationality or residency. In response to Peter Forsbergs comments, IIHF officiating manager Konstantin Komisarov issued the following statement on the selection process; "The main factor of the selection of these officials has most of all to do with their experience officiating in high-level competitions. These include Stanley Cup playoffs, World Championship competitions and Olympic competitions. Their nationalities arent considered as factors nor should they be, we want the best officials working the medal games. We are fully confident that with their experience and professionalism these officials will do their job well and preserve the integrity of the game." Good for Konstantin Komissarov and the IIHF officiating committee for selecting the best officials to work the Gold Medal game. The officiating crew did an outstanding job and preserved the integrity of the game as Konstantin was confident they would. Last Sunday, the game was played on Olympic ice in Sochi and not in the media. Peter Forsbergs silver medal-winning Swedish team was beaten fair and square by Canada to take Gold. The officiating was a complete non-factor; regardless of county of nationality. NHL officials are clearly the best in the world. cheap nfl jerseys cheap jerseys cheap jerseys cheap nfl jerseys wholesale jerseys ' ' '
