Two PUBG mobile games are coming, and one shakes things up

There are now two games based on PC hit Playerunknown’s Battlegrounds in the works for smartphones, as Tencent revealed early Friday morning. While one should look familiar to current PUBG players, the other looks like a major deviation from the series formula.

The first mobile PUBG game revealed is Army Attack, in production at Timi Studio.PLAYERUNKNOWNS BATTLEGROUNDS Items. It will include all-out naval warfare, where players can control ships and gun each other down at sea. There are also helicopters players can fight from — and not just parachute out of. These are both marked changes from the traditional battle royale set-up, with the teaser suggesting an overall arcade-style gameplay. (That’s how analyst Daniel Ahmad translates the teaser as well. )

Take two of PUBG on mobile, Battlefield, is more of what Tencent teased when it announced the project earlier this week. It’s the standard “last man standing” setup, with players fending for themselves on a deserted island. Lightspeed and Quantum Studio are developing the game.

Maybe to the untrained eye neither game looks all that unique from the other.Pubg items. Each one has a different developer, for starters, and... well, naval warfare and helicopter fights sure are new. There’s no Western release planned yet, so we’ll let Chinese audiences take these for a test drive first when they launch at an unannounced date.
