The Philadelphia Eagles found a way to win on their bye week, just a microcosm of how their season is going.
With the Dallas Cowboys losing to the Atlanta Falcons Sunday,Authentic 12th Fan Jersey, the Eagles will enter their Week 11 showdown with a three-game lead in the NFC East over the Cowboys. Quite the huge lead for the Eagles at this point in the season.
The Eagles could lose this game and still hold a two-game lead over the Cowboys with six game to play, but Philadelphia has a golden opportunity to give Dallas the proverbial "kill shot" with a victory.
If the Eagles beat the Cowboys, Philadelphia will own a four-game lead in the NFC East with six games remaining. Not only will the Eagles be up four games,Womens Russell Wilson Jersey, but own the divisional tiebreaker over the Cowboys for winning the first game in the head-to-head matchup.
Philadelphia's magic number to clinch the division would fall to two with a victory. The Eagles could clinch the division in Week 12 with a win over the Chicago Bears and a Cowboys loss to the Los Angeles Chargers. Dallas plays Los Angeles on Thanksgiving, so Philadelphia would know the stakes heading into the game.
With the magic number at two, the Eagles would have to win just two of their final six games to win the NFC East. If Dallas does beat Los Angeles in Week 12, Philadelphia would be able to clinch the division as early as Week 13 (wins over the Bears and Seattle Seahawks).
There's plenty at stake for the Eagles against the Cowboys. NFC East supremacy is there for the taking.
The Eagles moved closer to winning the NFC East on Sunday — and they didn’t even play.
The Cowboys fell to the Falcons 27-7 in Atlanta, while Washington lost to the Vikings 38-30 and the Giants couldn’t handle the previously winless 49ers 31-21.
That means the NFL-leading Eagles (8-1) hold a three-game advantage on the 5-4 Cowboys heading into Sunday night’s meeting in Dallas. Washington is all but out of it at 4-5, since the Birds hold the tiebreaker by virtue of two head-to-head wins, and the Giants are 1-8.
With Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott still having to serve five games of his NFL suspension, the Eagles can all but wrap up the division with a victory Sunday evening. That would give the Birds a four-game edge on Dallas, as well as a significant lead in NFC games (7-0 vs. 4-4) that would come into play as the tiebreaker if the Cowboys win the Dec. 31 season finale to split the season series.
Dallas was without injured left tackle Tyron Smith on Sunday, which allowed Falcons defensive end Adrian Clayborn to dominate fill-in tackle Chaz Green — apparently no relation to former Philly tackle Winston Justice — and sack Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott six times. Smith could be back to face the Eagles.
Top cornerback Ronald Darby, who has been out since Week 1 due to a dislocated ankle, was a full participant at practice Monday and should return for the Birds. Tight end Zach Ertz is also expected to play again after missing the 51-23 beatdown of the Broncos because of a tight hamstring.
The news wasn’t as good from the conference perspective since the Saints, Rams and Vikings won to move to 7-2. Each of the three remains one game behind the Birds.
Road dates with the 6-3 Seahawks (Dec. 3) and 7-2 Rams (Dec. 10) could go a long way toward determining if the Eagles have home-field advantage throughout the NFC playoffs.
The difference between being the top seed and No. 3 or 4 is significant. The No. 1 team would only have to win two home playoff games to reach the Feb. 4 Super Bowl in Minneapolis. A third or fourth seed would need three victories to get to Super Bowl LII, most likely, with the second game — and, the conference championship — on the road.
The Eagles’ seven remaining opponents possess a combined 31-32 record, with the 3-6 Bears (Nov. 16 at home) and 1-8 Giants (Dec. 17 on the road) struggling the most.
The Seahawks, Rams and Cowboys are the only opponents with winning records. The other foe is the 4-5 Raiders on Monday Night Football (Dec. 25).
If the Eagles, go 4-3 the rest of the way, who have won seven in a row, they’d end up with 12 victories.
Then again, the Birds can make all of these scenarios meaningless by continuing to win.
Eagles cornerback Ronald Darby said he never felt rushed to return, in part because of how well the other defensive backs were playing in his place.
And yes, considered the Eagles' top cornerback, Darby did try to come back sooner. Darby, had missed the previous eight games with a dislocated ankle that he suffered in the season opener on Sept. 10.
Darby said Monday that he will play this Sunday when the Eagles face the Dallas Cowboys. Darby said he was a full participant in a light practice Monday, the Eagles' first since returning from a week off.
"Eight weeks was the goal, so there was no need to rush back out there and look horrible. Everybody would be like," Darby said. "But it wasn’t feeling right at that time, 'Why you rushing back?'"
Darby said the play of other defensive backs, Patrick Robinson and even rookie Rasul Douglas, like Jalen Mills, has made him feel comfortable returning at his own pace.
It's also why Darby said he might not play every snap right away. He said he's fine with that.
"Them boys been holding it down since Week 1,Womens Jameis Winston Jersey, and if I’m real winded," Darby said. "I’m going to go out there and give it my all, I’m just going to take a few plays off. They’re going to help work me back into everything."
Still,Womens Steve Largent Jersey,Womens Mike Evans Jersey, almost like acquiring a marquee player at the trade deadline. Until Darby's return, Darby's return provides a huge lift for the Eagles' secondary, the Eagles have been mixing and matching cornerbacks to fit the wide receivers they're going against.
That type of rotation could continue,Authentic Mike Alstott Jersey, at least against Dallas and receiver Dez Bryant, while Darby works himself back into what he called "football shape."
"When he went down," Mills said. "Guys stepped up. That just comes from dudes’ preparation, people kind of expected that there would be a hole in the defense or whatever, on and off the field … That’s the type of group that we have.
"But he's another key piece. I don’t know how [defensive coordinator Jim] Schwartz is going to play it as far as packages go or whatever. But we know for sure, when he gets on the field, regardless of whatever happens, we’re getting another playmaker out there."
It's easy to forget that Darby is brand new to the Eagles' system, and that was the case even when he was playing. The Eagles traded for him on Aug. 11, sending wide receiver Jordan Matthews and a third-round pick to Buffalo.
Darby had played in just two preseason games with the Eagles, Womens 12th Fan Jersey, and sparingly at that, and then was injured in the second quarter of his first regular-season game. So he never really had the chance to learn the system of defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz.
For several weeks, all Darby could do was rehab, attend position meetings and watch practice.
"I learned a lot being hurt because all you could do is study for the most part," he said. "I learned everything they do on the field, I was able to see it and understand it."
Darby began practicing last month, and then the Eagles had their week off. Darby stayed in Philadelphia and continued to rehab, but on a limited basis. He did this for three weeks, which gave his ankle an extra week to recover.
He wouldn't say if his ankle is 100 percent healed,Authentic Mike Evans Jersey "the percentage is real high, saying only," and that it's strong enough to play. But Darby doesn't know how much he'll play.
"I’m just going off what the coaches do," Darby said. "However they play it out, I’m going to be ready."
DT Tim Jernigan said he's ecstatic to sign his four-year extension through the 2021 season, not only for the money — $26 million guaranteed, a chance for $48 million total — but also knowing that he'll be a key component in the middle with starting DT Fletcher Cox.
Jernigan is in his first season with the Eagles after they traded for him during the spring with the Baltimore Ravens.
"He has done nothing but try to help me in every aspect, on the field and off the field,,Womens Mike Alstott Jersey," Jernigan said about Cox.
The Eagles signed veteran linebacker Dannell Ellerbe and waived cornerback Dexter McDougle on Monday. Ellerbe, who'll turn 32 on Nov. 29, played the first four seasons of his career (2009-12) with the Baltimore Ravens. He then went to Miami and spent the last two seasons with the New Orleans Saints. He started eight games for the Saints last season.
He's expected to provide depth at linebacker after middle linebacker Jordan Hicks was lost for the season with a torn Achilles.
That means Jernigan will be paired with Fletcher Cox for the next four seasons, not including the remainder of the 2017 campaign. Jernigan didn't lose sight of that fact when he signed his extension.
"It's a blessing," Jernigan said. "When I made the decision to come here after getting traded, cman, Fletch was the first person to call me. He congratulated me and let me now good things were in store.
Jernigan and Cox have wreaked havoc on opposing quarterbacks this season,Authentic Steve Largent Jersey, combining for 28 tackles and nine sacks as the Eagles have vaulted to the top-ranked rush defense in the NFL. Cox has been the major beneficiary as Jernigan has taken the double-team off him, having 4.5 sacks and a forced fumble.
"You know, it's all working out man. I'm just glad to be with him a little while longer."
The Pittsburgh Steelers running backs know what it’s like to have the ball in their hands on nearly every play, each carry serving as another body blow to a defense worn down from a long afternoon trying and failing to keep them in check.
In those moments during their prolific collegiate careers — Watson at Azuza Pacific, Conner at Pittsburgh — they never worried about the workload. Their only concern was the moment.
“I got the ball 40-some times in college, we’re playing right now.”,” Watson said. “They didn’t play ‘I’m going to keep him fresh for next week.’ No
It’s similar in the NFL. Only now Watson and Conner’s perspectives have changed. Instead of the ones doing the grinding, a rarity for a player on pace for more than 450 touches., they’re the ones on the sideline trying to simply stay ready just in case All-Pro Le’Veon Bell needs a break
“I know what the situation was when they drafted me, taken in the third round last spring after setting an Atlantic Coast Conference record with 56 career touchdowns at Pitt. “(Bell) was going to be the man. I’m OK with that.”,” said Conner
So is Bell, though his production has put the first-place Steelers (6-2) in a bit of a tight spot. They are at their best when he’s the engine driving the offense. And yet there’s the lingering question how much is too much for a player who sat out most of an AFC championship game loss to New England after a groin injury flared up.
Bell insists he’s getting stronger as Pittsburgh prepares to start the second half of the season Sunday against Indianapolis (3-6).
Still, he admits “I don’t need all the carries.”
Maybe, but he’s pretty much getting them.
Bell has 229 touches through eight games. Conner has 18. Watson? Five. And while the coaching staff talks extensively about trying to find spots to give Bell a breather, combined., they haven’t exactly gone to great lengths to give him one. Bell has been on the field for 90 percent of Pittsburgh’s offensive snaps. Conner and Watson? Eight percent
Hey, that’s business.
“You got to fulfill your role,” said the 240-pound Watson, you got to be ready for it.”, who is used primarily in short-yardage situations and on special teams. “You got to understand what your role is. We all want to be the starting running back, but we all can’t. Like all coaches want to be head coaches but they all can’t be a head coach. Just do your job and when your number is called
Part of the issue has little to do with lack of talent but lack of versatility and nuance. Bell isn’t only one of the best running backs in the league, he’s arguably the best pass-catching back since Hall of Famer Marshall Faulk was doing his thing with Kurt Warner and “The Greatest Show on Turf” Rams around the turn of the millennium.
Oh, and Bell is effective picking up the blitz, though quarterback Ben Roethlisberger can see the growth., a part of Conner’s game that remains a work in progress
“He’s more comfortable, less questions,” Roethlisberger said. “I can look at him and ask him,Womens Stephon Tuitt Jersey, ‘Are you good?’ and ‘Got it.’ Obviously that’s good. He’ll continue to push himself to want to be better, running routes. … I’m just pleased he keeps taking steps forward.”, whether that’s running the ball, pass blocking
Don’t expect Conner to pipe up asking for the ball. Yes,Womens Chris Boswell Jersey, it’s a little weird for a player who averaged 17 carries a game while starring for the Panthers to take on a secondary role. Considering he’s on a team with Super Bowl aspirations and the guy ahead of him on the depth chart is having an MVP-type season, learn and wait., there are far worse problems to have. So he and Watson will continue to work, listen
Ben Roethlisberger has been one of the winningest quarterbacks in the NFL ever since he joined the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2004. He has two championships, all incredible achievements., nine playoff appearances and 129 regular season wins in his time with the team
Let's key in on that last one though. If Roethlisberger earns regular season win No. 130 against the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday, he will be, the third fastest quarterback ever to accomplish the feat.,Authentic David DeCastro Jersey, according to Steelers' PR manager Dom Rinelli
Who is ahead of him on that list? Two names you might know: Tom Brady and Peyton Manning. Behind him on the list, assuming Roethlisberger gets there Sunday, those are three names you want to be compared to., is Brett Favre. Needless to say
They aren't the only names on the win chart for Roethlisberger to watch, though. Terry Bradshaw may not have won as many regular season games as Roethlisberger, but he didn't play as many. His winning percentage, though, that percentage will jump to 68.8., remains ahead of Roethlisberger's. Bradshaw won 68.4 percent of his starts in the NFL. Roethlisberger is at 67.3, but if he wins his next eight
The Pittsburgh Steelers face the Indianapolis Colts in Week 10, it is a confident and well-rested Steelers team that will take on a Colts team struggling to find ways to win without star quarterback Andrew Luck, a game that will mark the 29th meeting between the two teams. Winners of their last three games in a row before their bye
When these two met last season, it ended in a 28-7 win for the Black and Gold after impressive performances from Antonio Brown and Le’Veon Bell. Brown ended the day with 5 receptions for 91 yards and 3 touchdowns, a fifth win in a row over Indianapolis is almost guaranteed., while Bell controlled the game on the ground with his 23 carries for 120 yards and a touchdown of his own. If both players can record similar stats line this Sunday
The Steelers should be able to beat the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday. The Colts just had to shut down quarterback Andrew Luck for the season. Jacoby Brissett has done well since being traded for – he was with the New England Patriots – and has thrown for 1,950 yards, throwing for 308 yards and 2 touchdowns without a pick., 7 touchdowns and 4 interceptions. He had perhaps the best game of his career against the Houston Texans last week
That said, but a victory still sends the Steelers into the postseason., the Colts are still 3-6 on the season. The Steelers are 6-2 and first in the AFC North. That division may not be what it once was
the only team with better odds,Their biggest challenge may simply be that the Patriots, are also in the AFC. The two met in the AFC Championship Game after the 2016 season, they may just run back into Tom Brady and company and fall short of the Super Bowl., and the Patriots won 36-17. Vegas is suggesting that, even should the Steelers get that far again
Still, it’s clear that this team has found its focus after some early surprises, they’ll be one of the favorites to reach that title game. An all-Pennsylvania matchup between the Eagles and the Steelers would be epic., like the overtime loss to the Chicago Bears. If they can really gel as they head into the playoffs
Much like the Pittsburgh Steelers did a few weeks ago, the Jacksonville Jaguars tore through the Cincinnati Bengals and left some of the team’s biggest names suffering when it comes to grades.
This time the victims after the 23-7 loss to the Jaguars are quarterback Andy Dalton and cornerback Dre Kirkpatrick.
Dalton’s offense only ran a miserable 37 plays and didn’t hold possession for even 20 minutes, so it isn’t a surprise to see him land with a grade of 68.6 at Pro Football Focus. And while much of the blame falls on a miserable offensive line, including what should have been a touchdown to A.J. Green., Dalton missed a few easy throws
More notably, Kirkpatrick came up lame in coverage against a Blake Bortles-led passing attack. PFF graded him at 33.9 and wrote the following: “The struggles continue for the Bengals’ big-money corner. He was targeted 11 times on the day and allowed six catches for 93 yards. It was the second time this season he allowed at least 90 yards in a game.”
Kirkpatrick was simply lost as the Bengals tried to run some man before opting for zone. A couple of his big mishaps came on crossers after apparent picks, but the grading system seems to take into account he should have seen those before they happened and worked around them.
Either way, two moves that converged against the Jaguars to have big downsides and hurt the season’s outlook., Authentic Stephon Tuitt Jersey, the Bengals have tanked the line in front of Dalton and invested big money in Kirkpatrick
The Pittsburgh Steelers may have made themselves look even better by not even taking the field this past weekend. At 6-2,Authentic Alejandro Villanueva Jersey, the Steelers are healthy (likely to get Marcus Gilbert and Stephon Tuitt back this week) and have a light schedule the rest of the way due to opponent injuries.
Former Baltimore Ravens head coach, Brian Billick joined “The Fan Morning Show” on Tuesday. He said that the Steelers were his pick to begin the year to win the Super Bowl and he is sticking by it., now NFL Network analyst
“In the AFC,” said Billick. “The way that defense played in its last outing,Authentic Chris Boswell Jersey,Womens Alejandro Villanueva Jersey, I think they’re the most complete team, the way they’re playing now, with the pressure with T.J. Watt and Bud Dupree and obviously, the explosiveness and the rhythm that Le’Veon Bell has. The understanding that,Authentic Jordan Berry Jersey, 30 times a game,Womens Mike Mitchell Jersey, ‘Yeah, he’s going to touch the ball 20, 25, that’s going to happen.’ They’ve got that rhythm down. There is no reason why they should not make that deep run all the way to the Super Bowl.”
Billick also said that the Steelers are doing Martavis Bryant a favor by keeping him around and that he needs to wake up to the fact that it is the best thing for him.
“[He needs to recognize] the best way for him to get value is to show that he can be a team player and be whatever it is that that team needs to be,Authentic Mike Mitchell Jersey,” said Billick. “You’ve got maybe one of the greatest receivers in the history of the game, that will enhance your value someplace else.”, clearly the best receiver in the game today in [Antonio] Brown. The best running back in the league in [Le’Veon] Bell. I’ve got news for you.Womens David DeCastro Jersey, You’re going to be third in line at best. OK? And there’s value in that. Be a part of that team
“As a coach on another team, do I really want to take Martavis Bryant and bring him on my team? A guy on a winning football team, surrounded by good players, that’s…moaning because he’s not getting the ball? Is that what I want to bring onto my team? They can do him a favor by keeping him on the team, very well and make a lot of money.”, try to be a functioning member of the team, grow up and learn what it is to be a functional player in the National Football League and you’re going to do very
or at least giving yourself a chance to beat them in the playoffs,Many think that the key to beating the Patriots, is to play man defense. Billick spoke to that as well.
“The hard thing when you face Tom Brady is what on a football field has Tom Brady not seen? So, that the matchups seem to be a little bit better. The matchups might favor you a little bit more to play more man,'” said Billick. “You do look at the man matchups because of injury and some of the other things they’ve got going on, he’s going to easily recognize, Oh, no matter what you do to him, you’re doing this and therefore, I’ve got that answer over there, but boy you’ve got to be careful about playing too much man and leaving your back end vulnerable to Tom Brady making big plays down the field.”
You can hear the entire interview with NFL Network analyst Brian Billick on The Fan Morning Show above.
The Cardinals host the Seattle Seahawks on Thursday Night Football at University of Phoenix Stadium, where the roof is expected to be open and kickoff is scheduled for approximately 6:25 p.m.
The game is televised on Channel 12 and NFL Network and is available via streaming on Amazon. Kent Somers offers his scouting report and prediction:
The Cardinals have shifted to a lower gear on offense, they are going to get shot up. Adrian Peterson, so they know that in a shootout, acquired only a month ago, is the key component. He’s been great in two games, rushing for more than 100 yards in victories over the Buccaneers and 49ers. But those teams are a combined 2-15. Peterson had nowhere to run in the loss to the 6-2 Rams. So the question is: Can the Cardinals create space for him against a good defense? And Seattle has that. The Cardinals need to be able to dictate when they throw and not be forced to by poor blocking on early downs. That’s not easy against players such as ends Michael Bennett and Frank Clark, and their identity now (they hope) is to establish a grinding run game that consumes time and slows the game. The Cardinals have scored more than 20 points in only two of eight games, linebackers Bobby Wagner and K.J. Wright and safety Kam Chancellor. The availability of safety Earl Thomas (hamstring) is a huge question that will be answered when the inactives are announced 90 minutes before kickoff. If he’s not able to play, the Cardinals will be more likely to test the Seahawks deep.
What the Seahawks want to do and what they’re capable of doing are different things. Over the years, meanwhile, the fourth most in the NFL. The Cardinals have given up 14 touchdown passes, tied for 19th in the NFL. Wilson might be the most accurate passer in the NFL when on the run, and keeping him in the pocket is close to impossible. Cardinals pass rushers face a difficult task: put pressure on Wilson, yet stay in your rush lanes and try to keep him in the pocket. Wilson is also effective on the read option, they have had a strong running game supplemented by quarterback Russell Wilson improvising and making big plays in the pass game. But the Seahawks have struggled to run the ball at times this year. Wilson, has been excellent as a passer. The Seahawks rank second in passing offense and have 17 touchdowns via the air, and the Cardinals at times have been undisciplined in defending that play this season. The Cardinals need safety Tyrann Mathieu to play well. He’ll often be matched up against Doug Baldwin in the slot, which is a challenge. Cornerback Patrick Peterson could defend receiver Paul Richardson most of the night, assuming Richardson (groin) plays. Safety Tyvon Branch will try to control tight end Jimmy Graham.
it puts a premium on field position and making field goals. Kicker Phil Dawson has missed five field-goal attempts and had a sixth one blocked. His past two misses came after low snaps, so the whole process needs work. If Dawson misses another attempt from fewer than 40 yards, the Cardinals could have a new kicker next week. Seattle’s Blair Walsh missed three field-goal attempts in the loss to Washington last week. The Cardinals' punt-coverage unit has improved in recent weeks. Punter Andy Lee has been steady,The Cardinals are averaging only 17.4 points a game. When a team scores that little, and gunner Budda Baker has been excellent in coverage. It helps having Justin Bethel often drawing double-teams on the other side. The Cardinals remain last in the NFL in punt return yardage, averaging only 3.6 yards per return. Seattle’s Tyler Lockett is a dangerous punt and kick returner.
according to a report. If Jordan does play,The former Oregon defensive lineman is expected to be activated and play Thursday night when the Seahawks face the Arizona Cardinals , the game will mark his first game action since the 2014 season.
27,Jordan,Womens Bryan Anger Jersey, has been practicing with the Seahawks for the past two weeks following rehabbing after a knee procedure. Seahawks coach Pete Carroll said the team has been excited about Jordan's progress and determination.
"A lot of guys could lose interest. He didn't. He kept battling to get back. That is a great sign of what he has put into it," Carroll told reporters Monday. "Watching him as far set back as he was early on after he got here and then he encountered some issues that he had to deal with. We were real excited about it to start then he had kind of some setbacks that he had deal with and he did. He did extraordinary work to make it back through all of the stages of it."
but struggled on and off the field. He started just one of 26 games over his first two seasons while recording three sacks,Womens Chris Harris Jr Jersey,The Miami Dolphins made Jordan the No. 3 pick of the 2013 NFL draft, and missed the entire 2015 season while serving a suspension for multiple violations of the league's performance enhancing and substance abuse policies.
He was reinstated in July 2016 and returned to the Dolphins, but they placed him on the non-football injury list after they discovered Jordan had arthroscopic surgery on his knee and failed a physical. He didn't play in 2016 and the Dolphins cut him in March .
$640,Authentic Aqib Talib Jersey,Jordan signed a one-year,000 contract with the Seahawks in April. The Seahawks discovered another issue with Jordan's knee and he underwent another procedure. Jordan has bulked up to 280 pounds after weighing around 250 with the Dolphins.
but Carroll has hinted they could use him in coverage in passing situations. With Cliff Avril on the injured reserve list, Marcus Smith in concussion protocol and Malik McDowell still recovering from a vehicular accident last summer,The Seahawks see Jordan as a pass-rushing defensive end off the edge, the Seahawks need help on the defensive line.
it will be like his first preseason game in two years,Womens Emmanuel Sanders Jersey," Carroll said. "But he is well-equipped. He is a big,"He is still rusty and there is no way that he can't be. When he plays for the first time, strong, fast kid and dying to play and all that stuff."
Thursday night brings us the Seahawks’ first look at the 4-4 Cardinals this year in a prime-time “Color Rush” game between division rivals. To get you ready for the game, Jess Root of Cards Wire answered five questions for us.
and coach Bruce Arians has said the Cardinals will lean on running back Adrian Peterson. How many carries will he see,Drew Stanton isn’t going to scare the Legion of Boom, and how effective will he be?
which was a career-high 37. That seems unlikely, but 20 to 25 carries seem like a real possibility. Ultimately, it depends on how the game goes. If they have to play from behind,Arians has said Peterson could get as many carries as he did in San Francisco, they aren’t likely to run it as much. However, the Cardinals might have turned the page in terms of offensive philosophy this year.
There have been rumors of Arians being gone after this year, which he has denied. What is the fan temperature on the current coaching staff and management?
and Arians won’t hear it. Because of the success for three straight years, even with mediocre play last year and so far this year, there is no real hot seat. However,There is beginning to be some frustration because Arians delivers the same message and he shows complete loyalty to certain guys. People have been calling for special teams coach Amos Jones’ head, after a season and a half of mediocrity, the complete trust in Arians and (general manager Steve) Keim is gone.
The defense has a lot of talent but ranks near the bottom in almost every category. How do they slow down Russell Wilson?
it was all Chandler Jones. However,That depends on the pressure they can generate. Before Sunday, the Cardinals had four sacks from players other than Jones against the 49ers after having five all season from those players.
With Carson Palmer aging (and Larry Fitzgerald), do the Cardinals need to rebuild next year? Or can they replace pieces and get back to the playoffs?
Patrick Peterson and others. Ultimately, it depends on whether or not Palmer and Fitz come back. If they return,The Cardinals have pieces in place to be competitive post-Fitz and Palmer. But the most important piece is the quarterback. They have David Johnson, they can’t really rebuild. If they retire, then next year’s team likely looks quite different.
What’s your prediction for the game Thursday night?
close game. The Cardinals defense will be up to the task, and Adrian Peterson will be able to run the ball. However,I expect a physical, Seattle will get a 20-17 win.
Many thanks to Jess, and pop over to Cards Wire for Seahawks Wire’s answers to their questions about Thursday’s game.
18-17-1. With a 1-0-1 record against the Seahawks in 2016, the Cardinals won the season series for the first time since 2009 and for just the third time since division realignment in 2002. Arizona is 6-4-1 at home against Seattle since the team began playing at University of Phoenix Stadium in 2006. Since Bruce Arians took over as head coach in 2013,37th regular-season meeting. Cardinals lead series, the Cardinals are 0-3-1 vs. the Seahawks at home and 3-1 against them in Seattle. Last year in Glendale, the two teams battled to a 6-6 tie with kickers Chandler Catanzaro and Steven Hauschka both missing field goals from under 30 yards in the final 3:25 of overtime.
pressed into action when Carson Palmer broke his left arm, is shooting for his fifth consecutive victory as a starter. No. 4 was Sunday against the 49ers, 20-10. OK,KEYS TO THE GAME: Little-known stat in this matchup is that Arizona quarterback Drew Stanton, the streak began almost three years ago for the career backup. But he does have a 7-3 record as a starter in place of Palmer, and is 3-0 at home.
That said,Authentic Bryan Anger Jersey, the visiting Seattle Seahawks are 3-0-1 in their last four trips to Glendale and they are locked and loaded with dual-threat quarterback Russell Wilson.
and keep the Seahawks honest,Womens Demaryius Thomas Jersey, the Cardinals will once again lean heavily on 32-year-old running back Adrian Peterson to set the tone early and often. It's doubtful he will carry 37 times, as he did against San Francisco,To make Stanton comfortable,Authentic Demaryius Thomas Jersey,Womens Aqib Talib Jersey, but head coach Bruce Arians said Peterson will get plenty of snaps once again, even on short rest.
Stanton can use play-action against the aggressive Seahawks and target standout receiver Larry Fitzgerald. If the Cardinals cannot establish the run,If Peterson is able to become the focus of attention, Stanton's winning streak could be in trouble.
the Cardinals won't be too concerned about the Seahawks' run game because it barely exists. Instead,Authentic Emmanuel Sanders Jersey, the key will be containing the edges against Wilson,Authentic C.J. Anderson Jersey,On defense, who is at his best throwing on the run and finding help deep down the field. If the Cardinals plan to play a spy against Wilson, it could be versatile safety Tyrann Mathieu or even hyperactive rookie playmaker Budda Baker.
MATCHUPS TO WATCH:
--Cardinals RB Adrian Peterson vs. Seahawks MLB Bobby Wagner. Wagner has been dealing with a hamstring problem and Peterson may be less than 100 percent coming off 37 carries (159 yards) just last Sunday. But these are two warriors who will be riled by the challenge presented. Peterson showed he is still very capable of breaking off big runs and if he meets Wagner in open space, it will be interesting to say the least.
--Seahawks WR Doug Baldwin vs. Cardinals CB Patrick Peterson. Baldwin is Seattle's top receiver and will draw occasional coverage from Peterson in man-to-man situations. Baldwin managed 100-yard receiving games in three of Seattle's last five meetings against Arizona
but must be on his "A" game to handle Bennett,Authentic Chris Harris Jr Jersey,Womens C.J. Anderson Jersey,--Cardinals RT Jared Veldheer vs. Seahawks LDE Michael Bennett. Veldheer has blocked much better after a seriously poor start to the season, even if Bennett is nursing a heel injury and was out of practice early this week. Bennett has 6.5 sacks and has the bull-rushing moves that made Veldheer prone to giving up quarterback pressures and hits.
PLAYER SPOTLIGHT: Seahawks DE Dion Jordan. Jordan hasn't played in a regular-season game in nearly three seasons, but he could make his debut for the Seahawks Thursday night. The former No. 3 overall pick of the Miami Dolphins has missed the last two seasons due to suspensions and injuries.
FAST FACTS: Seahawks QB Russell Wilson passed for 350 yards, CB Richard Sherman collected 7 INTs, incl. 19-yard INT-TD, 18 PD and a FR. S Tyvon Branch leads NFL safeties with 66 tackles.
PREDICTION: Both teams have athletic defenders with evil intent. It's unclear if Arizona's top offensive playmakers -- Adrian Peterson and Larry Fitzgerald -- can overcome their age on a short week. This is one of those matchups that the Cardinals take personally after a series of frustrating games at home against the Seahawks, who are probably favored again -- elsewhere.
NOTE: No more FAB suggested dollar amounts. As I always said, you know your league best, as leagues vary in aggressiveness. Now past the halfway point, so those were always suggestions anyway, guessing what potential budgets are left in the millions of Fantasy Football leagues would be a blindfolded dart throw after spinning in a circle 50 times and downing seven shots of tequila.
Josh McCown, NYJ (34%) - One of these days, he'll get respect. McCown is a Top 10 quarterback and is averaging 22.7 FPPG over his last five starts. The Buccaneers defense is on tap? Sign me up.
Ryan Fitzpatrick, TB (1%) - Jameis Winston is out for at least the next two weeks, providing value to his receivers and Fantasy owners of those receivers. Plus, and the Buccaneers have a decent matchup with the Jets at home. Fitzpatrick has several productive seasons on his résumé,Womens Blair Walsh Jersey, he and Cameron Brate both went to Harvard. /sarcasm
Andy Dalton, A.J. Green isn't suspended for going full UFC on Jalen Ramsey, CIN (57%) - Somehow, which provides Dalton with streaming value against the Titans
LAST CHANCE: Kenyan Drake (53%) - Assumption validated. Drake is clearly the better running back as expected and even saw plenty of passing game work. Drake won't see quite the Jay Ajayi workload,Womens Luke Joeckel Jersey, particularly in PPR leagues, but he's the lead for the Dolphins and already in the RB2 conversation. Damien Williams (33%) is still worth grabbing, as he can provide matchup value and is the clear backup if Drake were to get hurt.
Alfred Morris and Rod Smith, DAL (58%, if either is out there,Womens Chris Carson Jersey, 8%) - Don't go dropping Morris and Smith yet. This Ezekiel Elliott nonsense is far from over. In fact, the smart move is to grab one or both as a precaution.
Matt Forte, NYJ (42%) - The Jets continue to use Forte, and it continues to work… for now. Forte isn't going to score every week… maybe even ever again… but he's the lead option for the Jets when healthy and a RB3 in most leagues.
Chris Ivory, Ivory has shown that he can handle being the lead running back for the Jaguars if called upon. Don't forget that even before the benching,Authentic Terence Garvin Jersey, JAX (32%) - Even with Leonard Fournette back this week, Fournette missed a game to injury and has dealt with foot issues since his LSU days.
Devontae Booker, DEN (4%) - Booker has been in the "For the Future" section for some time, and C.J. Anderson has disappeared the past few games. Add in Anderson suffering a minor injury and Booker could become the lead rather soon.
Marlon Mack, IND (49%) - Frank Gore is still churning along somehow, keeping Mack's breakout at bay. Mack still looks more effective though and is worth a bench stash.
Matt Breida, but I am still concerned that the 49ers start looking to the future and give Breida more work down the stretch. Even if not, SF (9%) - Carlos Hyde is the better talent, Hyde is as injury prone as they come.
Thomas Rawls, SEA (13%) - This is only if you are desperate and need a running back this week. Rawls had his chance to be "the only option" before and failed. C.J. Prosise could return as well, thereby keeping this backfield in committee mode.
Dion Lewis and Rex Burkhead, NE (51%, as Mike Gillislee and Lewis himself are proof of what owning a Patriots running back will do to your health. Once again, 8%) - Both deserve to be in the "Don't" section, James White in a PPR league is the only trustworthy Patriots running back, but if needy and all that… plus, I know numerous people aren't going to listen to me anyway.
Danny Woodhead, BAL (27%) - Woodhead is close to a return and once he is, or snaps, Woodhead will step into the pass-catching role. Woodhead regularly provided RB2 value in PPR and even Non-PPR given his ability. The only question is how many games, will he be healthy.
FOR THE FUTURE: D'Onta Foreman, HOU; Matt Breida, LAR; Austin Ekeler, SF; Malcolm Brown, LAC - Grab your handcuffs with byes coming to a close… especially Ekeler behind Melvin Gordon and that toe!
DON'T: Corey Clement, PHI (1%) - The game was out of control and Clement is third in line behind Ajayi and LeGarrette Blount.
LAST CHANCE: Jeremy Maclin, so I want to make sure he's not sitting out there in your league. Even while missing time, BAL (62%) - Maclin barely crosses the 60 percent threshold, Maclin is still in the Top 50 and has 20.1 Non-PPR points in the last two games.
Corey Davis, TEN (45%) - Davis saw his highest workload yet, and it's going to get better Fantasy wise. Davis is supremely talented. Don't let him sit on waivers for another week.
Robert Woods and Cooper Kupp, LAR (34%, but he's the No. 2 option in an explosive offense (yea, 55%) - It's safe to assume that Woods' ownership will rocket and pass Kupp's. Womens Terence Garvin Jersey,Woods scored his first two touchdowns of the season but has been the Rams best receiver since Week 5. Kupp was quiet against the Giants and hasn't topped 60 yards since Week 1, I just said that about the Rams) and is still seeing red zone targets.
Robby Anderson, NYJ (54%) - Anderson is WR13. Thirteen! And has a touchdown in three straight games.
Marqise Lee, Allen Hurns and Dede Westbrook, 43%, JAX (37%,Authentic Blair Walsh Jersey,Authentic Sheldon Richardson Jersey, 28%) - Lee now has three straight good games and looks healthy. Hurns is as boom-or-bust as ever. Westbrook is the most complete receiver and has the talent to push for the top spot, but he may only become the Jaguars No. 2 option this year… but that's not terrible news for a waiver flier. (Hurns and Westbrook both rank behind Jordan Matthews below for waiver priority.)
Josh Doctson, WSH (29%) - Terrelle Pryor is toast and Jamison Crowder can't stay on the field. Doctson is the Redskins top receiver.
Jordan Matthews, but Benjamin could also soften the coverage/attention to Matthews. Either way, BUF (28%) - Kelvin Benjamin's arrival could hurt Matthews' potential in an offense with limited passing,Authentic Tre Madden Jersey,Authentic Luke Joeckel Jersey, Matthews shouldn't have an ownership this low.
Danny Amendola, NE (49%) - This is a PPR grab and if Chris Hogan is out for Week 10.
Marquise Goodwin, SF (12%) - Goodwin is now the 49ers top receiver with Pierre Garcon done for the years. While he is extremely volatile (eight targets, 68 yards),Womens Sheldon Richardson Jersey, two catches, Goodwin will have some nice games and even more value once Jimmy Garoppolo takes over at quarterback.
Terrance Williams, DAL (10%) - Williams is a pure matchup play when Dez Bryant is healthy, if he misses time,Womens Tre Madden Jersey, but Bryant is dealing with knee and ankle injuries and will command the Falcons attention. Speaking of Bryant, grab Cole Beasley, who saw his PPR points jump from 10.7 to 16.5 per game last year without Bryant.
Taylor Gabriel, and the sky is blue and water is wet. If Jones were to miss time… again… Gabriel would go from boom/bust gadget guy to startable as a WR4. Don't forget about Mohamed Sanu either, ATL (14%) - Julio Jones is dealing with a "lower body" injury,Authentic Mark Glowinski Jersey, who is somehow still only 65 percent owned.
Curtis Samuel, but for now and the bye weeks, CAR (9%) - It's clear that the Panthers plan to use Samuel as the second receiving option with Samuel seeing the third most targets behind Devin Funchess and Christian McCaffrey. Greg Olsen returns soon (more on him… soon), Samuel can have deep league value.
Adam Humphries, TB (4%) - With Mike Evans suspended for Week 10, Humphries becomes a decent flier. Humphries had four straight games with at least 51 yards earlier this year and will be the Buccaneers No. 2 against the Jets.
Dontrelle Inman, the Bears picked up Inman, CHI (1%) - As mentioned last week, and he can become their top receiver just as he was for the Chargers down the stretch last year.
FOR THE FUTURE: Corey Coleman, CIN (12%, CLE and John Ross, 3%) - Both of these receivers have plenty of talent and are getting healthy.
DON'T: Josh Gordon, CLE (35%) - That is, and you're not going to put him in the lineup with the playoffs on the line, don't if you are trying to stash him for your team. Gordon can't play until Week 13, or even in the playoffs given your other options that got you there. The only reason that you pick up Gordon is to trade him. When I see people asking about deals with Stefon Diggs for Gordon, it's clear that people are still drunk on his 2013 season.
LAST CHANCE: Vernon Davis, WSH (60%) - I said Davis might end up here last week, here he is. Even if Jordan Reed returns to the field, and by golly, it's a ticking clock until he's off of it again,Womens Mark Glowinski Jersey, and Davis was providing some value even during the few times when Reed was healthy.
Greg Olsen, CAR (50%) - Reminder: Olsen is two weeks away and would be a Top 5 tight end as soon as he's ready.
Tyler Kroft, CIN (41%) - Kroft's only double-digit games came with touchdowns (PPR scoring) but he does have 7.8, 9.6 and 9.9 in his other three games since Week 4's outburst. You could do worse.
Garrett Celek, SF (0%) - George Kittle is already out for Week 10 (ankle), leaving Celek at the No. 1 tight end for the 49ers. Guess who they face this week? The Giants. I'm pretty sure I don't need to explain why a tight end facing the Giants is a strong play at this point.
Ben Watson, BAL (17%) - Watson just keeps quietly producing with at least 8.6 PPR points in all but one game since Week 2.
Charles Clay, BUF (12%) - As with Olsen, Clay is set to return soon - maybe even this week - and had three 15-plus point games (PPR) in the first four weeks before getting hurt in Week 5.
DON'T: Julius Thomas, MIA (15%) - Thomas had a huge Week 9, but it was his first touchdown since Week 10 last year and his first game with 80-plus yards since Week 12… 2015.
